Your liver function should improve after removing the blockage. The nausea and pain should be checked by your dr at your post OP. Your dr can RX you pain and nausea meds.

I think your wife should get a second opinion on the ALT/AST numbers. Those are high for normal stuff like alcoholic cirrhosis or Hep C, which I am most familiar with.

However, there are other things...gall bladder (which is not an issue now, but there are ducts for bile that may continue to be a problem...check out primary billiary cirrhosis), the pancreas can be a problem, there are autoimmune conditions that make the liver functions go up (Autoimmune Hepatitis), there are conditions that mess with the liver functions caused by too much iron, too much copper, too much tylenol, snake bite, even long ago Lyme Disease can mess with all sort of things.

I recommend you take her to a specialist at a major medical center, a REAL hepatologist, not a GI generalist.

There are meds and protocols for all these things.
