Confused about Genotypes!!

Hey everyone... We got some very confusing information at the docs this week. They said my husband is a hybrid type 1a & 2b and that it is VERY hard to fix with the peg treatments he is taking, anyone have any more Info on that? He was so rushed we didnt get alot of info, really freaked us out! Also, if there is anyone taking the Peg, are you having any trouble with your teeth? My husbands teeth are very weak, all of his caps & crowns have fallen out & his molars are cracking and falling apart, they wont remove the teeth because his platelets are too low & they said he would bleed to death. Now my hubby is dealing with the infections setting in & his teeth shredding his tongue & cheeks! I am so darn tired of this virus...I just wanna SCREAM!!

You have every right to SCREAM. Youre in a frustrating situation and a Doctor walking out on you is inexcusable.
I'm sorry I can't help you with your dihlema but i'm sure others will have helpful information.

They should be able to do something about your husbands teeth or the infections could spread to his brain or cause sepsis. why can't they put even temporary caps over the broken teeth so his cheeks aren't raw.

You need to call his doctor and insist he explain things to you or find a different hepatologist as Valerie would say.

In fact I'm sounding like Valerie tonight. She's communicating through me guys.

And thanks for your prayers. Gene is improving by the minute and I'm in awe at both his and Valeries abilities to rebound.

Glad you made it to the forum and you were able to vent. I will have to agree with my (Ma) Barbara. You have every right to be angry! Try to hang in there and know that we care.

You probably need to hunt for another Hep. Dr. If you want me to find you one give me a ring. Or I can recomend Tony's Dr. to you...

I also had a cap break off, and a filling now loose. I go to the dentist April 18th. I'm starting to have thinning hair.....How much longer is he on the meds. I'm doing peg-in-tron and reb a pak.....19 more weeks!!!!!!

Tawyna, I just wanted to welcome you to the forum. I have hep C, diagnosed in March of '93, and currently have a large malignant tumor in my liver. Back when I was diagnosed, all they had was Interferon A. They did not know about genotypes at that point, either. I took 2 short rounds of Interferon, but had to stop both times due to very low white count.

If I can ever get rid of this tumor (a new radiation treatment starts soon), I would again have hep C treatment. At least I would not have to worry about my teeth--I lost all of them in the past 2 years. I don't think hepatitis was to blame, as my teeth have been a problem all my life.

WElcome to the Forum Tawny, I hope you are able to get the advice you seek. At least I know you will receive support from the wonderful Forum members. If they give you half of what i have received you wil be lucky. My life has changed since joining the Forum.

What causes the teeth trouble? Is it the medication or liver disease? In the past two weeks i have lost a part of a tooth then a filling. I didn't associate it with my cirrhosis but after reading these posts wonder if my sick liver is the problem. I'll ask my heptologist next time i see him or the dentist. I'll probably see him first.

So glad to hear Gene is improving Barbara. And excellent news about Valerie! What an amazing lady she is!!

Hi Tawnya, glad to see you came back! This was a major problem for me as well with the tooth thing. For me it was a consequence of prescription narcotics & prednisone in addition to the liver disease, which the meds made worse real fast. I only have 4 teeth left because of this. Is your hubby taking any prescriptions narcotics or other meds or herbs that affect the liver? Once you start getting a lot of infections as Barb has said this brings new & serious consequences. Have you considered a new Hepatologist sweetie? Quite frankly I would & fast!. Thankyou for all your prayers, encouragement ,support & Kind words Tawnya.

Hi Marg, your a pretty amazing lady yourself. Any one with cirrhosis needs to have regular dental checkups. If we get infections or gingevitis there will be no transplant. So everyone please take good care of yourselves now beforethings spiral out of control.

Hi Tawnya, Is your hubby taking taking extra vitamin C , all B vitamins (except B3) calcium, Vitamin D & E, calcium,zinc, selinium,folic acid? If not you may want to ask your dr,about these & how much of each. God Bless. i will keep you both in my thoughts & prayers. later....

Hi Tawnya,

I don't know to much about the Genotypes. I would be frustrated also from, the doctor not giving you much info!! Mark had to have a tooth pulled recently, because it broke. I know liver disease deprives the body of many nutrients, so it does make sense the teeth would suffer also.
