ALTERNATE MEDICINE

Hi everyone,

Just thought I'd let you know about my appointment today. (Chinese herbal doctor with a Western medicine degree) Dr. Chen is giving me acupuncture to train my white bad blood cells to stay away from my liver.  -  and herbs to build up the good white cells in the liver.  He is determined to get my Prednisone dose down - his comment was "don't want to die from side affects from the drugs to fix the liver"  It's very expensive and I'm not sure whether my health fund will cover it.  But if it fixes the liver it's worth it!

All foods OK except alcohol -

I'm feeling positive about this so hope it works.

I think he said he would train my white cells to stay away from my liver. I think white blood cells work our immune systems and my white cells are attacking my liver, thinking it a foreign body. (they are bad because they are doing something bad to my body).
Yes Dr. Chen is a medical doctor as well. The health fund pays 60% of the acupuncture costs up to $28.00 for the first visit and $23.00 for each subsequent visit. Nothing for the herbs. Each visit is $130.00 ($50.00 acupuncture and $80.00 herbs). At this stage I am having weekly visits. I'm not sure how long we can afford this. Plus it's about an hours drive so add the fuel costs.

But then again, you can't really out a price on good health and he says he will make me well.

Hi everyone

An interesting thing happened at my appointment this week. I did not mention my macula degeneration to Dr. Chen, just put out my arm and tongue, for him to feel the meridians. I had my needles in slightly different spots but then afterwards he changed my herbs - said the new one would make me calm and peaceful all the time - but when I read about it (lycium) at home there was mention of it helping eye problems.

I found this a bit spooky. Does he really feel what's going on in my body with just 15 seconds feeling my wrist and a quick glance at my tongue?

Also read that one of my herbs can cause weight gain. If I remember correctly, I think it mentioned Prednisone, and likened this herb as a natural way of doing the same thing. Must read it again. Perhaps this is the reason for my added pounds - not the extra chocolates and toast - I'll talk to him about it next time.
