I had a visit this afternoon with my oncologist at Mayo, to go over recent CT scans of chest, abdomen, and liver. Everything remains the same as it was in September: Necrotic tumor material of 9-cm remains from the original tumor. However, there are only a few "live" cancerous cells on the upper periphery of that. No metastasis anywhere. The oncologist suggested keeping an eye on it by having CT scans every month or so. He also was going to contact the treating radiologist there, to see if what he thought, and to find out if he would be willing to do further chemoembolization. However, previously the radiologist had told me that his job was to get the tumor to an operable size and to see if they could get the part that had grown into the inferior vena cava to shrink back into the liver tumor (which it did.)
I would like to have another month or (even better) two, in order to continue to gain strength and stamina after my hip revision, before undergoing major surgery of removing the entire right lobe of my liver.
I'm very grateful for all of the prayers and for the skill of the physicians at Mayo. What I have experienced has truly been miraculous.
Hugs to all,
Connie
