Hello everyone
I have been having very severe low left side stomach pain and my GP has given me a tentative diagnosis as I have

Diverticulitis this is the only forum I can find I know itmis IBS forum but maybe someone can help

My question is can Diverticulitis cause very very severe left sided stomach pain

Yes, it can. I have never had it but have friends that have. I think the only way to know is either CT scan or colonscopy.Diet is very important to prevent it. It can be very painful, I understand.

Thank you for responding all I found on Diverticulatis is it causes pain ussually low left sided stomach pain but they do not say very severe pain like I have been having I have chronic pain and take Oxycontin for my lower back which keeps the pain under controle very well but it dose nothing to ease the pain I am having with this it truly is untolerable I feel for anyone who has this and gets the pain it causes I have almost gone to the emergency room due to it

Pain is a very subjective thing. If you are in that much pain you really need to see someone soon to check it out, even if it means going to ER. It sounds like more than IBS pain. Have you tried heat? Sometimes that will relax it as it can be a spasm. Were you given anything for spasms? Many people with IBS find they help. I think that you need to get to Doctor ASAP even if it is ER. Have you been going to bathroom OK? If so you probaby don't have a blockage but pain that severe should never be let go. You need to see a gastro Doctor and get this resolved.

When inflamed, diverticulitis can and does cause severe pain.  A friend of mine is in the hospital at the moment on IV antibiotics and morphine for this while they decided whether or not they are going to operate.  I don't know if you've read up on diet but there are things to stay away from and eat to avoid flare-ups.  If this continues, please go back to your doctor.  Wishing you pain free days ahead :-)
