Salazopyrin

This is an antinflammatorty drug that I have never heard of in the US. I don't know why he gave it to you. I suggest you ask why he thinks this would help. If you have a fever usually you have an infection and blood work including blood cultures should show an infection. He must think you have a bowel inflammation but i don't think it would increase your fever. It sounds like it is a sulfa drug which are sometimes used for infections but none of the sites I saw mention infection.

Activa is for both and I can tell you it really helped me.

I would go 3 days of no BM and then 3 days of D. It was horrible. My body was not digesting food properly. THe docs said I had IBS/Ibd, and the gave me prescription pills for the pain and cramping I would have every single time I ate. I suffered for almost 2 years. Every meal I ate felt like I was food poisened. could not eat much for food. Everything had to be bland. Like white rice and baked chicken for the last 2 years.

I tryed Activa and the first 3-5 days I did not notice a difference. BM were still loose. I still ate one everyday and now I have been on it for 1 month. I feel like a million bucks!!!! I go the same time everyday now and its normal and there is no pain associated with it. My mood has improved and I am ten times happier then I've ever been. I can finally go out to restaraunt with my boyfriend and eat from the menu without worring. Just only regret I tried this sooner so I would not have to suffer.

And I can eat anything I want now. I might gain alot of weight at this rate. The foods that I would have to avoid before I can now eat with ease....

Like Pizza, ice cream, soda, chocolate, pudding, chips, sandwiches, an occasional beer OMG the list goes on.....

Infection causes fever and a blood test should show if you have an infection. White cell count would be checked. IBS does not cause a fever, not sure about IBD. I think Divertilitis might.

Yes, a fever of unknown origin needs to be worked up. The regular blood work they will do may elucidate a cause, but it will likely need to be worked up further by a specialist. The key is to not be too alarmist at this stage, because there are so many things that can cause this vague symptom. Are you having night sweats? Any weight loss? Joint pain? Things like that would be helpful to note.

Fever is your body's response to unwelcome "foreigners" - your temperature raises, antibodies are set in motion to attack the invader, and you, henceforth, feel like crap for a few days. A fever isn't always a bad thing but there's usually a reason for it, and some of those reasons are easier to treat than others. I'm glad your doc is getting right on it. Request a copy of your bloodwork if you want help understanding what it means, I'll see if I can help you out on some superficial level at least.
