Hello everyone,

 

My name is Janet, and I am almost 48.  3 years back I had a full hysterectomy, and a bladder lift... the fibroide was thought to be the size of a orange,  but ended up the weight and size of a 10lb baby!  we even named it, but I cant put it up on here! nono .

 

Since the op tho, I started IBS.   It normally only lasts a few days, and then I am back to normal.  somethimes I need meds, sometimes Ileave it and it goes away on its own....

This last attack it knocking me for 6!  I get ringing in my ears alot,  didn#t think it could be one of the symtoms!  I also get bouts of depression... This attack hasn't stopped, but just got worse and worse for the last 2 months, with no rest....  I went to see a dr on Thursday, who gave me a course or IBS med that he gave me before, and also some orange fibre drink to help me go.    I have been but only the tinest bit, and it was soft too.   The pains in my stomache have been very uncomfortable....  but the pains in my bottom  are a lot worse.  I find it very hard to sit down, or stand up...  the only relief I seem to get is when I lay down at night.

 

I am not eating much at all... this week I have had 2 slices of bread, and thin slice of ham.  I managed half a small tin of soup yesterday too.  I eat properly... plenty fruit and veg, and never cook with any fat.

 

I have also started this week getting extremely painful cramp in the back of my legs too.   I keep getting up thinking that the meds will work today, but no luck.   It takes me ages to pee too, whether its the pressure I dont know,  but I do go, just takes a long time.

 

I have to watch what I take because of the other pills I am taking....  HRT and Blood pressure.

 

Does anyone have any idea when I might get some relief please....   the meds the dr gave me are:     colofac,   and   fybogel

 

Many thanks... its so difficult for people to understand, and they seem to think that you are pulling a fast one!  so its so nice to be able to talk to fellow sufferers

I don't know those meds as you must be in the UK and I don't recognize the names. Have you had a colonscopy since your hysterectomy? YOu could have a blockage. You really do need to see a specialist. Are you drinking enough water? You might try increasing your water especially if you are taking a fiber supplement. I don't know why HRT and a blood pressure pill would affect any of the IbS treatments.

I agree that this really does need further investigation. Although IBS attacks can be prolonged for such lengths of time (I know!) I think canyons suggestion of a possible blockage does need to be ruled out. You need to try and push your doctor to get you a refferal to see a specialist.

I'm surprised that your doctor, knowing your history and the length of your current suffering, and diverse symptoms only prescribed the very basic meds. Fibogel is pretty mild ...

If there is no improvement during the next few days  DO see your Doctor again and see if you can't push him into running some tests.

What about a CT scan? You really need to see someone. I was told not to really worry about being constipated for a few days unless there was pain and then I needed to get in and be seen or go to ER. If is possible that you could have adhesions from your other surgery or any number of things. It doesn't sound like they are taking this too seriously. It could be dangerous perhaps to use something like they use for cleaining you out for colonscopy unless your Doctor approves it but I would ask him about that. If that is a fiber you are taking it could be making things worse.

Thankyou so very much, all of you...  today I have bought some prune juice (yuck!) but got to the stage where I will try anything now....  Have been a couple of time today, very soft, but still only small amounts....  if nothing happens by Tuesday, I certainly will make another doctors appointment.  I will certainly keep you informed, and thanks again for taking the time and trouble to help xxx

You probably need a full blown laxative a this point. I doubt it you are that constipated that prune juice will do anything. Why didn't they just give you a regular laxative?
