Hi Everyone,

I'm hoping someone can tell me about gallbladder polpys.I had an ultrasound Tuesday and my Dr. just called and gave me the results:

1-findings are consistent with 2 small cholestrol polyps within the gallbladder.2-3mm

2-there was a report of a negative Murphy sign?????what is this?

3-2 tiny echogenic foci present

My questions is how fast does a polyp grow?Because I have only had the pain for about 3 weeks now but it is very painful.The pain I have is right shoulder (lower)blade,shortness of breathe,hurts to hold in a breathe,pain on the top part of stomach,across of middle back to the sides of my ribs and then of course the gas,bleching,abdominal bloatness feels like something stuck in throat.Have you had them removed or just leave it alone?

The Dr. ordered another test Hidascan for 24th.Any information would be great.I'm hoping someone can tell me how fast it progressed.If you don't mind.

You gave an excellent description of an acute gallbladder attack.

The size of the polyps may not be what is causing your discomfort. Some type of blockage of the bile duct could be doing that.  Murphys test....when there is pain when the right upper quadrant (where you're hurting) when felt/pushed by your MD. So I guess you did not have severe pain or shortness of breath when it was palpated?

The HidaScan will be able to tell at what percentage your gallbladder is still working/or not working.

If you only had the small polyps surgery wouldn't necessarily be a consideration from what I understand, but it sounds like there is more going on...blockage of the duct by polyp, sludge(crystallized stones), or outright stones. Were you told if there was a thickening of the gallbladder wall? 

Your #3...I have no clue, but do a search on 'gallbladder polyps with Negative Murphy's sign' and you'll get lots of information that might answer your question(s) better than we could here.

Gallbladder cancer is very, very rare, so that should put you at ease.

Thanks for responding.

Do you think with the polyps 2mm could have all this pain I mean I can lean back on my chair and its excruciating pain 24/7.Another side affect I remember is after you eat or drink something and you burp it feels like its coming back up but not all the way.I know your not a Dr. but do you know how fast polyps grow?
With the MCTD I take pain pills anyway so I can't imagine if I didn't take the pills.You know I don't remember the doc pushing or touching the area to be honest.No thickening of the wall.
Can you tell me how symptoms start and what Dx's you have today.

Hi Mary,
"Echogenic foci" are gallstones. It's just how they show up on an ultrasound. So this could be the cause of your gallbladder attacks, and it might be worth considering surgery. I had multiple gallstones and very severe URQ pain, and when I got the gallbladder out the pain disappeared. You should talk to your doctor about this - when do you see him/her next?

The negative Murphy's sign is not a big deal, sometimes a positive Murphy's sign is more of a clue that gallbladder disease is present, but the fact that you have the positive ultrasound report is sufficient. I also had a negative Murphy's sign. It's kind of a subjective test.

Sarita thank you for responding.I'm a little confused so I have polyps and gallstones.Do you know how fast either of them grow because my next scan isn't until April 24th.I've noticed something was wrong for 3 weeks with the constant pain I feel it even with Darvocet.I've noticed that the pain is going into my arms and my left arm shakes also is this normal?i'm not sure what a URQ pain is.

I'm leaving for Florida on Thursday sure hope nothing progresses when I'm down there.When you had your gallstones how long did it take from symptoms starting to have them removed?Sorry for so many questions but with all I have going on with my health I'm freaking out because I have a MCTD and just last week I ws Dx's with Sorgren's along with everything else.

URQ is Upper Right Quadrant. If you divide your body in half down the middle and then in half horizontally across the waist/bellybutton, you have four quadrants of the body: upper and lower right quadrants and upper and lower left quadrants.

Gall stones come and go and get larger depending on the person. Besides, how big they are doesn't really matter; all that matters is if they get stuck in the bile duct when you are passing them (obviously larger ones are more likely to get stuck, but some just float around in the gall bladder and don't cause problems). Works just like a kidney stone that way.

I was put on darvocet for my gall bladder pain; might as well have drank water for it. It wasn't until they gave me some after a surgery that I realized, hey, this stuff does not work on me AT ALL. If you are still hurting while taking it, ask for something else. Not all pain meds work on all people.

I got pain in my upper right arm sometimes too. I don't recall it shaking, but I did feel weak in that arm. I found that my arm pain was worse when I drank cabronated, caffeinated drinks. Caffeine was a BIG trigger for me (pizza was my mother's); you might try laying off that on your vacation. No deep fried foods either. Just eat fairly low-fat stuff; you might feel better.

Thanks for responding.I have a couple more questions if you don't mind.When you have phlegm with a BM what does that indicate?Because I've noticed alot of you have vomit or (diarrhea)sp. But I might once every month with loose bowels.
I had the HIDA SCAN on thursday and waiting for the results tomorrow.As far as the tickening of the gallbladder wall NO.So is that a good sign?

Mary, do you mean mucous with BMs? The gut normally produces tons of mucous to keep the system running smoothly, so some mucous in your stool isn't necessarily a red flag, but a lot of people with IBS notice that they have a substantial amount of mucous which is probably due to the more rapid transit through the intestine.

THE REPORT OF MY GALLBLADDER:
IMPRESSION-The findings are sugggestive to gallbladder disfunction with a gallbladder ejection fraction reduced only 20%.The gallbladder ejection fraction should be 35%.No symptoms were elicited with the administration of CCK.There is no evidence for cystic duct or common bile duct obstruction.

FINDINGS:Peak activity within the liver is seen by 10-15 minutes.Activity was fist seen within the gallbladder by 5-10 minutes and within the biliary tree by 5 minutes,and finally within the small bowel by 45 minutes.

After the administration of CCK the calculated gallbladder ejection fraction is 20% over 30 mins.Visual inspection of the images shos mild reduction in the amount of radiotracer within the gallbladder after the administration of CCK.
Does this sound like surgery or no.Hope someone can explain this in english LOL.

I just heard from my Dr. and he is sending me a specialist because of only 20% of my gallbladder is functioning.He's thinking surgery but he wants to be sure.Can anyone tell me if they had 20% only functioning did you have surgery and how ling are you in the hospital in-out or over night?I'm also Dx's wjth MCTD.Please give any other info on DYSFUNCTION GALLBLADER.
