Constipation after taking Zyretc...was normal with amitizia leading up to it...need suggestions

Hi,

I have IBS C...I have been on amitizia and it has worked well.  I was working good when I took a zyrtec for two days and on the third day I had constipation and have not been able to get back to normal.  Any suggestions?

Zyrtec is an antihistmine and will dry you out. You need to always drink a lot of water with an antihistamine. I have the same problem. The antispaz drugs do the same to me but not as bad.

Have you found that it can also cause indigestion?  Acid reflux?  I guess if it can dry you out and bring on constipation it can bring on indigestion which is a side effect of constipation.

Any suggestions on how to get rid of the indigestion .... constant burping after eating and very uncomfortable feeling? 

I finally start to move yesterday but not to the same degree but now I am miserable with indigestion.

Everything causes acid problem for me. As for the burping I would watch what you eat, no carbonated beverages, no gum, no straws, no hard candy. Burping is from the stomach so once you get that all moving you should be OK. I take a drug for motility so stuff doesn't stay in the stomach so long but it is no available in the US and i prefer not to mention it here as some people bought it and it didn't help them. I take 40mg of Prilosec a day and a 20mg Pepcid at night as well. I went thru a few weeks of total H--L with the burping and my doctor told me Simethicone was the best to get rid of the gas. You can get that at any drug store and it does help.

I remember when you posted about the motility drug and I am thinking about it.  Everything doesn't work for everyone so I think that you shared it was good because who don't know who it could of helped.  People tend to talk more when they are in pain than ok.  I appreciate you offering the info.

I did not understand when you said you went thru a few weeks of H-L with the burping. 

I just want to get back to where I was.  I was doing ok before the zyrtec.

weeks of "Heck" can't say what it really felt like. Because it was not available in the US and I bought off the internet there was concern which I can understand. For those of us that have no drug coverage we learn to find safe sites for saving money thru networking.
