:-)  Hello everyone

 

sad  Can anyone help? Whenever I eat anything I get bloating. My tummy gets so big, I look pregnant and it hurts very much. I already tried Rennie, Gaviscon, Windeze and other non prescription meds and no help. I tried not eating any fruit and veg, that doesn't help either. Does anyone have the same and can you recommend anything?

Hi :-)

Have you tried an elimination diet?  I bloat very badly when I consume wheat products and am going to try to totally eliminate it from my diet and see if that helps.

You might consider the probiotics that are talked about on the forum. Either Acidophalous or Bifadis or just try the Digestive Advanatage. I get this also even with my use of a motilility drug but sometimes it is still there, like this week so iwll go back to the probiotics, antispaz drugs or maybe just fennel. I am coughing a lot so know that I am taking in a lot of air. You just have to keep trying things. One thing you should elimate first is dairy products as they do cause gas and acid problems. No carbonated drinks while eating at least, better none ever, no straws. Just keep trying. It is a never ending quest for most of us.

probiotics and digestive enzymes are 2 great things to get yourself on, as well as fibre supplements...those help with C & D.

sad  Thanks everyone! I already tried fibre suppliments and probiotic drinks. Does anyone know why bloating occurs? Knowing the cause of the problem makes it easier to solve. I don't want to stop eating wheat because its part of a balanced diet. It might fix one problem and cause another. Its the same with fruit and veg. Any food I eat makes me bloated.

I would strongly suggest either keeping a food diary or the elimination diet, as someone suggested. Something you are eating is irritating your system.

If I were in your situation, I would have to look at three area's:

1. What I am eating.

2. How I am eating it.

3. How much I am eating each meal.

If you could determine what foods irritate your GI tract, that would be helpful info. If you could relax during each meal, chew your food slowly and in an enjoyable way, not using straws, not woofing down your food, that might help. Also, sip a beverage but do not drink much of it. Get your main dialy fluids consumed in between meals. Finally, I find that small portions of food are easier on my GI tract. If I have a regular sized dinner (what a restaurant would serve you), it's 50% too much food at one time. I have to eat at least half. Somewhere between 1/3 and 1/2 that amount. If we're dining out, I take the rest home. And no longer feel bad I cannot eat this huge entree served to me (best example? Olive Garden!). If at home, I use a smaller plate and use a small tablespoon to dish out my portions. Not a huge serving spoon.

I do hope you can figure this out.

Here are a few reasons. Other sites list certain veggies, smoking, using straws, hard candy to name a few. I think the food diary is the best but some people are just air swallowers. Talking when eating is a big no-no.

Fibre supplements have to be taken daily and indefinitely to become and stay effective....same with probiotic caps, not the liquid drinks...try Primadophilus Reuteri made by natures way found in most health food stores in their fridge, both have done wonders for my crohn's and IBS...bloating/gas is the nature of the beast for both IBS and IBD.

Diet is crucial as well, avoiding fast-foods, processed foods/beverages, caffeine, sugar and sugar substitutes/artificial sweetners especially sugar alcohols, anything ending in "tol", sorbitol, xylitol, ect.

Regular daily exercise is also strongly suggested for IBSers as it helps promote normal bowel function.

It's a combination of the things mentioned above that will aid you, there is no "quick fix" when it comes to IBS.

I bloat like I am 10 months pregnant if I eat dairy and it is very painful. I only eat cheese and yougurt. My stomach always swells with all food unless I take a pancreas enzyme. My gastro Dr. said found that food was not digesting properly. My 14 month old grandaughter just had test done for same thing (poor little thing has so much pain and swelling they said she had enflamed colon from C-def from TOO MANY ANTIBIOTICS for her ears. So fixed ears and hoping her colon will heal. But they also said she had a slow reacting colon so her food just sits there. Has anyone ever heard that. I have had IBS for 25 years but never heard that. Hi all, missed talking to all of you but have been busy working and building house and being in pain.

Idont no if i have IBS or not yet.

Had stomach probs for a while mums been ill lost weight, now she has been diagnosed with terminal lung cancer and has months left.

My stamoch probs started about 3 months ago when i started to worry about mum

Symptoms include bloating, pain , sometimes nausea, been to doc twice and he thinks its stress.

Never suffered stomach probs before, im worried about cancer.

I find that if i have a big evening meal i suffer the day after really bad. sad

hi frances so sorry about your mom. Stress can make you have stomach problems, thats for sure.  My Drs told me for years I just needed to learn how to handle stress. But there are alot of other things that can cause it also. I found that massage helped with all my stress issues, total relaxation yeah There are signs of cancer that you can look up on computer. It will help you to know if you do or dont have the symptoms. If you do then tell the Dr. If you dont then that will take that worry away for you. Hang in there I feel your pain right now, have been thru it with loved ones. Take care.

I suffer from the same thing and it progressed to the point where it has sideline me for good...

like someone else said... elimination diet and a journal of what you eat and what happens... you will soon see a pattern of the stuff that is causing you symptoms to be worst. Also everyone is different.

For me Veggies for sure do great harm to my plumbing... that and bread... so I eat meat and fruit...
It does not solve the problem and will not cure you but it will help minimize the symptoms....

Also IBS has no pin point cause... why because docs just have not figure it out why....
