Simzee - like you, I am running to the bathroom a lot too. Eating light and small meals thru-out my day seems to work the best for me. And plain food. I'd be a fool to eat chili, chocolate cake with chocolate icing, spicy foods, or a Chipoltle burrito (the way they heap spoonfuls onto the shell anyway).
I have a Sister-in-law trying to lose weight, she's in her mid 50s. Has a normal GI tract. She recently announced she cut out all white foods from her diet.
My husband (his sister) nudged me and whispered - hey, that's YOUR diet!
He has dubbed my "diet" (low residue) the White Diet.
But hey, my colon doc says I can continue eating this way, because if I didn't, I know I'd never leave my bathroom.
9 years after my rectal cancer, colon resection, etc. I have come to this conclusion - there isn't one magic cure or fix for us - for each of us, we need to find what diet works for us, what to eliminate (stress, food/beverage triggers, one for me is mirco brewed beer!), what to add (pro-biotics, exercise, etc.).
But the premise of this entire topic is - has anyone just tried not eating. I have already answered but I'll say it again, yes. I often joke - no input, no output. But in certain situations, less or little food really does work. You just can't do it for long.
And you can't even begin to explain it to people with normal colons. I have given up trying to explain why I am this messed up, GI wise.
Some think I have stomach upsets. And I let them think that! It's just too hard to explain any of this to normal colon people. And even if you try, you lose them within 1 minute. This also includes COLON DOCTORS! Yes, I have determined that even if they try to understand what we all go thru, they sometimes just do not get it. And they should!
