Amitiza only working part of the time?

Has anyone else experienced this, where Amitiza will work GREAT for a day or two, then for no apparent reason just stop working for a while? And even if it does work, do you still feel bloated and puffy despite "emptying out"?
I am really, really starting to miss Zelnorm. At least it was consistent! But I guess this is better than nothing...

I thought Zelnorm was still approved on a case-by-case basis if the prescribing physician is "certified" to dispense it? Or did they just take it completely off the market?

I've never been on Amitiza and never have constipation so I can't help you there, but hopefully your body will start self-regulating on it soon enough!

I was told that Zelnorm was completely off the market - but as of the past several days my body seems to be working with the Amitiza. Maybe it just needed some time - who knows!

Time is the best medicine, I think! I'm glad you're feeling like the Amitiza is working okay...

Could you tell me what your results are with Amitiza. I just had GERD surgery 6 weeks ago, plus I have IBS-C. Since the surgery, the Amitiza was causing extreme diarrhea while I was on a liquid diet. Now that I've added some fiber caplets, it seems to have slowed down some. Do you just have regular bowel movments or is it mixed with diarrhea. Do you get large and loud bowel rumblings when taking Amitiza? I know what you mean about the Amitiza not acting consistently.

I also miss Zelnorm, it was wonderful...I'm always hoping it will come back someday.

Well, the first week I was on Amitiza I had diarrhea and cramping. Then for a week and a half I was terribly constipated. Now, for the past 3 days or so I have had a lot of bloating, frequent soft (but not diarrhea) stools that are, I'm sorry to say, pretty smelly plus smelly gas! I've had lots of rumblings and "popping gas" that I can hear in my gut. My stool has been kind of greenish lately too. No idea why. I'm just glad I can "go"...but that bloating makes me look odd because my gut doesn't match the rest of me. You would think that if I am pooping normally my gut would be flat, but it isn't, and I suspect it has to do with the Amitiza.
Every day is a new adventure in my IBS world.
