OK I'm smack in the middle of a flare. Waiting for my pill to kick in. I'm having one of those ones where I am stuck on the loo because once it starts there is no way to end it till the guts decide to rally for a few minutes for the next volley. Sometimes it takes a few minutes sometimes it takes twenty. And I have to say that when my only reading material is last week's drug store ad my mind tend to wander and make weird off the wall connections. Like since people can have gastric bypass to help them lose weight to help improve their health, why can't we modify other organs to help improve our health. Since I was in pain and literally unable to control the ole' guts, you know where this is going. Mind you since I was( actually still am) in a fair amount of pain I will admit that I don't think things all the way through. Like the downside to things. I mean people are electing to remove whole stomachs because of a family history of stomach cancer even though there is no certainty that they themselves will get it. I get that removing all or part of the bane of my existence will cause problems of it's own. And years ago when I mentioned it in passing to my primary doc she said things like that were not done for quality of life reasons. Right now I'm in daily pain, my IBS has lead to severe panic attacks to the point of my not leaving the house for months at a time( started after a few public accidents, once in a take-out place) and led to the point where I can't work a normal job, and well the list goes on but I won't bore you. But from where I'm standing I don't feel like I have much of a quality of life. And I have the family history thing. I know that it's not logical, I know that it's not practical and the no surgeon in their right mind would remove any part of my guts for such a seemingly trivial reason. *Sigh* Well back to the research in ways to help bring this back under some semblance of control. There is never a quick fix for anything and with my luck anyways they'd remove it then find out the problem was in my small intestine anyways.
