Traveling Frustrations!

Even before my tummy troubles I used to get frustrated with rest stop bathrooms. You pull into the parking lot and it has enough spots for 100 cars and entire row for just semi's to get in there and it only has 4 stalls! I mean hello? I mean it's one thing for like the bookstore or a grocery store to only have a few stalls because people don't go there to use the bathroom. But most people go into the rest stop with the intent to use the bathroom. Or the smaller ones where it's just a McDonald's with two stalls and the line is almost out the door because there is no other bathroom for the next hundred miles.

Marsky, I'm looking at new apartments. Almost all of the two bedrooms in my price range have a bath and a half. To have a large cabin only have one bathroom is nuts. The place I like is only 850 sqft and it boasts more then one bathroom. I'm a 3 to 1 person when it comes to bathrooms. If it's designed to hold 12 people then there should be at least 3 bathrooms minimum. Doesn't even have to be full bathrooms but a toilet and sink would be nice. My aunt's house has a half bath that used to be a linen closet. They don't take up that much room.

If my husband and I ever have a new house built again, my dream would be to have two plumbing lines to the street, not one, and that would be expensive I know but also a row of stalls. I joke he can even stash one in the basement next to the hot water heater, I don't mind.

Now what I'm about to tell you will sound like I am a gambler but I'm not, my husband enjoys playing black jack once or twice a year. He entices me into the trip by eating out (horray, I don't have to cook!). First time I walked into a casino public restroom I thought I had died and gone to Heaven! So many rows of stalls, with full length doors, plenty of TP AND a bathroom attendant (now that was a bit much but nice all the same). This bathroom was the size of half my entire house - at least 1200 square foot! I came back to the table and said - you know how I like some rest stops (the ones in Ohio and surrounding states are actually fairly decent) because there are lots of stalls? He laughed and said - and now you like Casino restrooms? LOL Bingo I said.......funny thing is if I did like gambling, it wouldn't be a bad place to spend an afternoon. You'd be guaranteed a stall!

Thanks for your replies Lady Frog and Lil. Never thought my life would revolve around a toilet! But it does....sigh.

I sent an email to the cabin's owner/manager. Asking if this large cabin offers more than one bathroom. Basically trying to make a point, I'll admit it. He said and I quote "my family of 6 manage just fine with 1 bathroom and so far we haven't had any complaints." I guess they stay in this rental from time to time. I just thought - okie dokie, rent a large cabin for 8 but with only bathroom and for 2 guests - no thank you. It would be way too expensive. And if you took another couple along, 2 bathrooms would be ideal even w/o IBS issues!

Oh well.....

Marsky - is this cabin out in the woods? Could squatting like a bear be an emergency back up option? Just knowing it is available might put your mind at ease. Maybe you could bring a bucket lined w/ grocery bags and keep in your bedroom? In an emergency use, tie off, and throw in a dumpster? Just trying to think of ways you could make it work. Maybe set up a shower schedule where half of you shower at night and half in the morning to reduce the time people have to wait to poop.

I have found that when I have gone to some crowded house parties w/ one bathroom I hardly ever had to wait. No one used it as much as I did lol!

Yea travel sucks when you have IBS, try having IBS & an issue with public restrooms. I have no idea why, or what causes it, but I hate public restrooms of any kind, no matter how clean or large. I am slowly getting over it. We were stuck in the Phoenix airport for nearly 23 hours when our flight was delayed two years ago, I thought I was going to die. We finally found the last hotel in the city, and I was so happy to see a private bathroom.

On a side note, I actually passed on buying a house because it was 2.5 bath. 2 upstairs and then a small half bath built under the stairs which faced the living room. There was no way I wanted to attempt to run up the stairs to make it, or go in that tiny little room right next to where everyone would be spending most of their time.
