Your gas problem could be something as simple as using straws, chewing gum, consuming carbonated beverages each day and/or not chewing your food well and swallowing it too quickly. Also, exercises help dispel pent up gas.
Before looking closely at vegetables, fruit and whole grains, do you do any of the above that I listed? On a daily basis? If so, skip straws and chewing gum. If you drink soda or beer, try pouring the beverage into a glass and waiting for some of the carbonation to escape before you drink it. Try exercise. My surgeon said I should choose one of the 4 and do it daily: 1. swimming laps (the best one), 2. brisk walking, 3. jogging or running and 4. riding a bike (stationary or on the trail/road). I decided brisk walking is the best one for me. We eventually bought a treadmill for this reason.
A daily food journal/diary might be useful to start as well. Record all foods, drinks, meds you took that day, any treats you ate (candy, ice cream), if you were sick with a cold, etc. Rate each day at the end and after a while you will begin to see a pattern form. On the days you experienced less gas and felt better, look carefully at what you ate and drank that day. These are the foods that agree with you the most. The days you feel your worse? Flip side - these are the foods, etc. that you might want to avoid or eliminate.
I wish you well.
