ive just found out i have ibs is there anything over the counter i can do to help prevent it??

I don't know of anything that actually prevents IBS once you have it, but I can tell you that taking fiber really helps.  I have had IBS-D for about 15 years and had trouble believing that fiber would actually help me.  But once I tried it, I found that it really helped reduce my symptoms.  I take Citrucel tablets everyday without fail - two in the morning after breakfast and two in the evening after dinner.  You may want to start by taking two tablets once a day and then see how many you feel you need to take to keep your symptoms under control.  The fiber is also supposed to be good for IBS-C.

So sorry to hear that you have been diagnosed with IBS. I have had IBS-D for 27 years. Over the years, I have been told that I would have to live with it or I was given pills to calm the spastic colon down. The pills might help for awhile, then not! I do not take anything now. I am trying Digestive Advantage for IBS. But, I have almost finished a box and can't see the difference. I'm sure it'll take more than a box. If I have a real bad stomach 'issue', I take an anti-diarrheal pill (like Imodium). I hope you won't suffer, like I have. Take care.
