I originally posted this in the GERD forum, but then realized it might be more appropriate in the IBS forum.
Sorry for the double posting!
Please read & I'm open to feedback! Thanks.
In the past 6 months I had a ton of problems that resulted in removing my gallbladder October 1st. My symptoms were gone for about 6 weeks and then started to return...absolutely NOTHING to the extent that it was occurring.
So, I went to a new GI guy. He had me try Bentyl 4x/day for a month. It made all of my other symptoms go away. I went back & he told me just to take it as needed. I've felt pretty good, and in fact have not taken it at all in the past 3 weeks.
Here's the new thing though. I had a routine physical about 6 weeks ago. All blood work was normal, except my hematocrit which was 33.8 (normal 35 to 40ish) for a non-pregnant female. They said to wait a month, in between menstrual cycles and repeat the test. I did the test 2 weeks after my last period and it was 32.8.
The nurse asked me if I had heavy periods. I don't know!! It's not like I go out and ask my friends how heavy their flow is today? So, I said, well they've gotten worse but maybe.
She told me to go to my gyn to see if we can get the anemia under control.
Here's my thought. Could my new anemia be related to the dyspepsia & that I've stopped taking the Bentyl?
It's time for my annual gyn exam anyway, so I'm going to go, but should I also make an appointment with my GI guy now that I have a diagnosis of anemia?
Also, could my anemia have resulted from my surgery on Sept.30th, then 4 periods, having the flu, and running 20-30 miles a week training for 1/2 marathons?
Thanks,
Sherry
