Good morning, good afternoon or good evening to all members and moderators depending on which time zone you are in...

 

My guy has no health care coverage at this time so we sometimes get online and try to self diagnosis his health issues before he goes to the emergency room or appointments.

 

This morning he experienced once again, dry heaving and then vomiting while having a bowel movement. He says he was constipated and not too much happened other than the vomiting of clear liquid.  This has happened to him at least three times that I know of in the past 10 years that I have known him and seems to be happening a little more frequently.  His previous episode was about two or three months ago.

His first thought was lactose intolerance. I don't think so.... I think he suffers from IBS, or some other form of a GI problem. But then on the other hand, he experiences bleeding from the rectum while having a bowel movement. No bleeding this morning, but he did however on Monday.

He is at work right now and I am looking for some feedback to give him when he calls me.

I read some of the older post on the subject but most were posted in 2008 and 2007.

Are there any updates or current similar symptoms to be aware of ?

Hi!

I'm not a doctor but from what I know, if you see fresh blood with your stool then it's probably hemorrhoids. Blood that came from somewhere deeper like the colon usually comes out as black stools instead of red blood. Hemorrhoids can be surgically corrected. I didn't get surgery for mine but it helps me when I use wet tissues instead of dry and I apply Vandol ointment right after I pass stool. There are also meds that can help people with hemorrhoids so it's better if he lets a doctor see him to get proper diagnosis and help.

I've also experienced that dual horror of vomiting with diarrhea. It's like my whole digestive system is clenched in a tight spasm, ugh! I've traced mine to food intolerance to certain kinds of starches/grain. Actually, my clue was that it always happens after we eat noodles at a certain Chinese resto. I think I'm over sensitive to certain type of starches and that resto just happens to use them on their noodles?? Can't confirm this though. Maybe he should try to keep a diary of the food that he ate before the episodes and try to eliminate those from his diet? It's mostly trial and error and requires a lot of discipline in choosing the right kinds of food for him.

I hope he feels better soon. I'm only relating what I have that may be similar to his but I've been to several doctors and have had plenty of tests to eliminate other possibilities. Make sure that he sees the proper doctors, specifically for his GI problems. Good luck!
