IBS diagnosis doctors aren't helping

I am going through the same thing. Though I see a GI doctor, but they can not do anything for me since I have been on every medication, powders and nothing works. I had a total colectomy back in 2008, did okay for a year, and then had problems. I had a total colectomy for slow transit constipation. Though due to food intolerance was slow recovery, but avoided those foods and did well for a year. All of the sudden, I started getting diarrhea non-stop, severe stomach issues, abdominal pain especially after eating and/or during bowel movement, and other issues. Had an excellent appetite through that until December, when my appetite all of the sudden went away. though i have gotten my appetite back, but the symptoms are a lot worse. More I eat(or try) the more diarrhea, pain, and frequency and output I have. I had an ileoscopy(I do not have a colon, so the checked my small intestine), and an endoscopy. My primary care doctor did a blood test 2 weeks ago to find that my Bilirubin (liver) was high, but when I told the G.I. doctor the other day, he just said he'll check it again and nothing is being done. I am getting a second opinion and going to Boston to see a G.I. specialist there (I live in Rhode Island). This summer I saw the colon surgeon who did my surgery and said that this diarrhea is not normal for that surgery. Though i was supposed to only go up to 3-4 times day, as opposed to the normal 2-3, but my stools should have firmed and not go so much. Well, good luck with everything.

    I am so sad to hear of your difficulties, you poor thing you would think the worst was behind you.  Are you a soda drinker, like Coke?  My son quit drinking Coke and his runs went away...all the artificial sweetners are bad for you.  I am not trying to minimize your problem at all but it was just a thought that popped into my head.

I just had a total colectomy in Feb 19,10.  My colon just completely quit working.  I hope that you get answers and some help soon.  I feel so bad for you, I will be praying for you.  It's just not fair hugh?  I only go 3 or 4 times a day with no D...love the new life it gave me...
