Here is the long and short of it...
After I had my daughter (approx 3mo postpartum) I was diagnosed with hemorrhoids. I was prescribed proctofoam and nitroglicerine gel (I think??) to help them.
They bothered me off and on for about 18 months.
This past summer I had a terrible bout of them again and landed in the ER. Was prescribed proctofoam again and it didn't do anything (I was out of the country at the time).
When I got back to the US I saw my doctor and she gave me s rx of lidocaine for pain and another med (geez why can't I remember the name of it...) that had to be compounded and was ungodly expensive. Some sort of blood thinner maybe? Anyway.
That worked like gold when I used it.
I just had my son 8 weeks ago and they came roaring back.
The toilet is -full- of blood when I have a bowl movement. Everytime I have to poop I literally start to sweat and shake and I have to bite a towel whenever I poop (and I just gave birth, naturally to an 8lb baby- I'm no wimp)... I literally have to stiffle screams when I poop.
The pain THROBS for hours and hours and hours after having the BM. I'm talking 4, 5, 6 hours after. Sitting hurts, standing hurts, laying down hurts. It's just unbearable.
I've been living off stool softeners since he's been born trying to help ease the pain. I've gone back to using the lidocane and other compounded rx that was given to me during my pregnancy and this time it isn't doing anything for me.
I eat ib prufen and tylenol for pain like candy.
I'm at a loss. I want to make another appt with my doctor but I'm terrified of needing surgery. I've read a lot about the surgery to remove them and I'm not sure I can deal with that pain, along with having a newborn. But the pain of these hemmies is seriously starting to impact my life.
Are there any other medications I should look into first?
I'm even terrified to have an exam it is that painful. The thoughts of someone sticking their fingers around back there just makes me lightheaded.
