Well that's a relief that you had a good day without nausea, I hope you remained feeling well throughout! That pain in the shoulders and back gets on your nerves after a while also, as does the bloating, belching and loose stool. I am glad to see you were able to schedule the surgery and not have to wait a long time!
Have you had surgery before? Will it be done in the hospital? I had mine done in the Surgery Center rather than the hospital, I went in at 9:00 and I think I was home by 3:00 that afternoon. I hope you can have someone stay with you at least for the first few days post op as you will feel some soreness at the incision sites, this is assuming you can have the surgery done laparascopically. It might be helpful to have some fat free meals cooked and available ahead of time, I highly recommend staying low fat for at least a month after surgery. Your body has to adjust to not having stored bile, so if you don't tax it by eating a lot of fat, gradually the bile duct they leave behind can take over. Also I took to wearing my sweat pants because I had a hard time buttoning my pants LOL until the bloating goes away post op. Drink lots of water, walk as much as you can and as soon as possible, they will fill your abdominal cavity with air during the surgery and that gets trapped in your shoulder blades as gas, which is painful but walking helps to eliminate this gas.
It may be helpful to have Promethazine in a suppository form for nausea post op, this way you do not need to swallow a pill if you are nauseaous, which I was!! I also took Vicodin for 2 days, and a stool softener because you do not want to become constipated! This sounds funny but it's important to practice breathing deeply after surgery, yoga helps a lot. I had a great deal of trouble breathing deeply, it hurt at the incision points. Also, if you need to sneeze or cough, keep a big pillow handy to hug tightly!
Incidently, we love the San Juans but don't get over there enough! My husband got seasick on our whale watching cruise LOL! My husband was in New Orleans for 7 days for a karate tournament many years ago, pre Katrina. He loved the food, beignets, gumbo and etouffee? With having his stomach issues, he can't eat like that anymore LOL! I am an ameteur nature photographer and someday would love to see Louisiana!
Wishing you the best for your surgery, please keep us posted!
