Hi Everyone,

I'm a newcomer so i hope i have done this right!.

I have had IBS for years and Nothing i have tried has worked so i have learnt to live with it!

All the Hospital tests i have had are normal although that was 10 years ago, but recently i have started to get a nagging dull ache under my right rib!.

I believe in reflexology which i have been having and she says all she seems to constantly pick up is a stomach problem.

I have had a liver function test, pancreas and full blood count, all clear, so my doc sent me for a scan on my gallbladder, which has a pylop in but the doctor didn't think it could cause this sort of pain as pylops don't give off symptoms.

So yet again fobbed off with more tablets and the pain has slowly got worse. The tablets are to rule out an ulser and they have made no difference, so now i'm getting scared.

The pain is continual from the minute i wake up, if i eat it dulls down a bit but never goes, last night it was bad, today its more mild but constant.

I feel totally bloated and the pain goes round my back, makes me feel like i have bruised ribs.

This doesn't feel like IBS, this is different but i'm also on movocol to see if i have a blockage of some sort.

It's getting me down now and i feel like i'm out of ideas.

Has anyone out there had similar symptoms and got any ideas? Please shakehead

Sorry you are having pain.
I have similar issues but along my LEFT rib. I finally made a doctor's appointment with the gastro doc to have it checked out but it will be awhile as he has a long waiting list. My pain is like a burning or gnawing feeling and has been continuous for 3 months now. Feels like I put "icy hot" or "BenGay" on my stomach along the left ribline. Antacids don't help a bit. Nor does eating or not eating, standing, sitting, or lying the feeling stays the same.

I would go for a second opinion, i have been fobbed off and passed from pillar to post!, yours sounds defo like a stomach ulcer or acid prob, very similar symptoms to my friend who has an ulcer or a hernia, don't wait, push!!!!! x

Leeanne I have had urq pain for over 3 years, it started like you say a gnawing feeling and has become a continuous pain that wakes me up. It never goes away. I have had ultrasound, hida scan, mri, endoscopy, colonoscopy and there is no obvious diagnosis. The pain now is spreading to my left side, my doctor says he has no clue my GI Dr said in the beginning there was some inflammation in my duodenum. My Dr feels this is something to do with my liver but GI Dr does not agree I have elevated enzmes. I hope you find out what is causing your pain.

god rose, i know how you feel, my pain is now feeling like i have a baloon under my rib! really getting me down, going back tomorrow AGAIN!, my hubby is coming as he can see how much pain i am in, verry worrying eh? x

I am a Crohn's patient whose had right upper quadrant pain for a few years. HIDA scan showed low but normal ejection fraction, and my pain is not related to meals, so gallbladder issues were essentially ruled out.

I recently had an abdominal CT to look at potential inflammation in my small bowel. The CT showed instead that I had a colon full of stool, and since I've been connecting my right pain to slow bowels, my GI and I agreed that the pain I'm feeling is pressure in my transverse colon when I need to have a bowel movement. He recommended a laxative; another DR recommended a motility aid like Senokot. I haven't tried either since I've been on vacation, but I'm also hopeful that my motility problem will be reduced by taking my Crohn's meds and following a gluten free diet. I'll probably end up trying the Senokot this week and see how it goes.

The abdominal u/s that showed a gallbladder polyp might need to be followed up with a HIDA scan, but if your pain is constant I wonder if you have considered trying a proton pump inhibitor like omperazole to reduce gastric acid? This is an effective OTC medication; however, not everyone responds as well to all the different ppis out there and you might think about trying a few (give each one a 14 day trial) to see if that will help.

I am on Omperazole, have been for 2 weeks but has made no difference, i'm on Movicol to try and see if the pain is trapped wind of constipation!, and although i have managed to go, the bloating is terrible and the pain has eased slightly but is still there!, i can't believe a pylop would cause this much discomfort.
I feel waves of nausea but i have not lost any weight or lost much appitite.
I see my doctor again tonight so i'll see what he suggests next!

No according to doctor, he said I am complicated : )

I had similar problems and had every test done from heart to gall bladder, to stomach, and colon. Docs believe it is related to IBS, stress, and anxiety. Even though I do not have anxiety attacks I am anxious because of the constant pain I was in. I began 10mg paxil which I was on years before for actual anxiety during my divorce. Since my return to paxil I have calmed down a bit. My intestines no longer hurt, but I still get a warning under right rib when a big bowel movement is about to happen. Many symptoms like this are actually quite normal but because we are anxious we are heightened to the symptoms and they seem like a big deal. The biggest thing with stress is we tend to hold it all in and as we do this we build up excess gas that can be quite painful if excessive. If you find yourself berbing to find relief my guess it is gas. Sometimes we work so hard for everyone else that we forget to make time for ourselves. All the things we used to do for fun and relaxation we forgot to make time for and inside it makes us angry. We may not know, but we slowly slip into a depression of sorts. We don't realize it until we have every test run and we have to come to accept that we need to change some things in our life. Paxil screws up my sex life, but I slept ten hours last night and I have been calm. I can accept this tradeoff until summer vacation. I am a teacher, so its easy for me to get stressed and not realize it because I love my job, but as I get older I must realize I am not young anymore and I must take care of myself. I hope this helps you. If you try paxil let it work for about two weeks. The biggest side effects for me are sexual and I am always tired in the morning for about an hour or so. I also get these really cool yawns that make me shake a minute but it actually feels pretty neat.
