has anyone gotten surgery for ibs?

i've been miserable, and the doc tell me nothing they can do.  i'm fed up with this constant pain.  i know the docs cannot find a organic cause.  but its always on my left side.  wondering if any surgeon would remove a section of my left colon even if there's no organic cause?  i just want to feel normal again, don't want to live the rest of my life like this.

I had surgery on my colon in June of this year to repair a whole in my colon. My food was going straight thru me. It was leaping from my small intestine to my large intestine(not completing the entire journey that food would take).

Symptom: I would leave the dinner table in the middle, then come back to finish my meal. I was always uncomfortable being arould others and the stress of he secret is enough to make you not feel well ever.

My doctor repaired the area and made each intestine separate again. I have had this disease for 27 years, treated it with medication and whatnot. It took this doctor to actually hear what I was saying and really look. Now I can eat out, leave out the house after I eat w/o waiting for nature to take its course. I use Lialda, but 2 a day, and that good, well its gone.

Digest Blue - it sounds like you had a fistula. That is not something you get from IBS. I'm glad you got it fixed.

Laser-doc, if there's nothing wrong with your colon, why do you think removing it would help with your IBS? What else are you doing to try to manage your symptoms?

Give me a break!IF I hear of another way laser are going to cure a problem ,which the medical community can not ,I will laugh my IBS away!IT seems lasers claim to fix everything from tatoo removal to bad skin ,pain of all kinds ,hair removal,stop smoking ect .I do know that laser eye surgery has worked on afew people I know but to different degrees.I just don't get how its possible?How can lasers do everything they claim to do? there is no guarantee with this claim?I am totally uncomfortable with the idea of laser anything,can you explain how it works and provide proof it works ? thanks from Michele also why does my gasteroigist say there is no cure?

It seems I misunderstood the laser doc post.however I still feel the same way about laser surgery!I have been going thur a rough patch with IBS and recovering from my surgery for thoracic outlet syndrome.Iam wondering will Iever feel better ,its taking so long to heal and if Iam not in pain from that ,the IBS is causing pain ,gas bloating .ITs funny sometimes my IBS flares up so bad for afew months and others times its fairly manage able.Iwoke up today with cramps ,gas and pain which has lasted all day.Ihope Ifeel better tomorrow.
