Had my first Endoscopy and Colonoscopy last week

6 days ago I had my first endoscopy and colonoscopy. The doc found one small polyp in the sigmoid area...called it diverticulosis. He told me he saw "nothing worrisome" when he was in there. I should hear back this week about the biopsies that were taken.

My question is, what are the other biopsies for? I am aware of the biopsy of the polyp, celiac disease, and obviously, cancer. But what other diseases are they looking for, or trying to rule out?

Even if the doctor doesn't SEE inflammation, they should always take biopsies and make sure there isn't evidence of inflammation on biopsy.
