Hi. I'm new here. I'm having my first colonoscopy on Monday am. The dr prescribed TriLyte. I'm concerned because I'm very easily nauseated by nasty smells and tastes. I already spoke to the nurse about
this and she said to just slow down if I get nauseated - completely missing the point of course. I've been reading about
the Miralax/Gatorade/dulcolax prep and it sounds much more tolerable.
I'm wondering if I should just go this route and skip asking permission. My only concern is it not working. I have pretty significant chronic constipation issues.
Have you ever heard of it not working or not doing a sufficient cleanse?
And why would a dr prescribe something so nasty when miralax has no taste?
I would really appreciate any insight or experience.
Thanks.

I hope others chime in. I also get nauseous but I've had 11 colonoscopies at this point. A lot of members here prefer Miralax and if you know the schedule/instructions for that prep, I don't see why you couldn't switch to it. Although I will say you are lightly sedated with Versid, called Twilight Sleep and I believe you can still answer questions. You may reveal you didn't follow their prep instructions but at that point, if you're cleaned out, what's the difference anyway?
I'd like to add I've used 2 preps, both taste awful and I have to down them, I wouldn't follow your nurses advice, I figure the faster it goes down, the faster you chase it with a drink of your choice - I like a glass of cool-aid or you could follow it with Gatorade. Then I like to brush my teeth so I have my toothbrush ready with toothpaste on it. Sometimes I chew a piece of gum for a minute or two to get that taste out of my mouth, although I know gum is out, they're worried you'll swallow it.
I prefer to consume the bulk of my fluid intake before the prep begins. By then I'm not feeling great, who is, and if I know I've had at least 1/2 to 2/3 of my total fluids recommended (I keep track), it's easier on my system.
I also bring a small cooler in the car for an ice cold water bottle and a few saltines (I prefer Club Crackers with salt), I sip the water and begin eating the crackers on the car ride home. By the time I'm home, my stomach's in good shape. I only sip water in the recovery room, even if that glass of Coke or 7Up looks so good, I refrain from them. Why? I downed an entire glass of Coke after my second or third procedure and it all came right back up, it was too much for my gut to handle so soon as the procedure.
Good luck!

Thanks so much for all the information. My doctor uses Propofol, so I don't know if that makes a difference in my level of alert
ness.

Spoke to a different nurse and asked her to ask the dr directly. He agreed to the Miralax prep. No Dulcolax and said to drink 15 eight ounce glasses within 5-6 hours starting 3pm the day before my (early am) procedure. He said if it's not clear after 6 hours to drink 2-4 more glasses.
They didn't specify Gatorade so I'm wondering if I could drink it with vitamin water or diet ginger ale or sprite zero. Does anyone know??

All I can add here is to NEVER try Moviprep if you get easily ill. That stuff just about
killed me, even after many attempts of begging doc to try something else he gave me no other options. Needless to say he is no longer my doctor.
