Hello,

I'm a newbie but had this problem for a couple of years now. After passing stool and wiping dry. An hour later my anus is terribly itchy. I will go to the washroom to wipe and it's like i never wiped at all, there's stool on my anus again and it's wet. I wipe again and within an hour, the same thing will happen. It is wet/dirty and uncomftorable usually until next morning by which time things go back to normal. Also get after showering discomfort in my anus and has this smell to it.

Does anyone know what this could be? Sometimes is worse and sometimes gets better but always there. Any hints? ideas?

I went to a walk-in-clinic but the doctor was terrible. He just asked me if i was gay and when I said no then he said that I just don't wipe properly or don't finish my stool properly without taking a look at it and sent me away.

I think you need to see a different doctor as this is obviously a problem.
Haven't heard of this myself but I am sure there are lots of people on this forum that can help.
Make sure you get checked out by another doctor.

Hi Tori!

Just read your post and I'm so sorry that doctor spoke to you like that. I am female and first started posting on the ostomy site. My history goes way back to 1986 when I had my son and all my colorectal problems started. I will tell you that it sounds like you have a little bit of anal leakage. I'm not sure how old you are, but as we all get older our anal/rectal muscles start to weaken. You can do Kegal Excercise. They will help to strengthen the entire pelvic floor muscles. Just Google Kegal Exercises. I do them for the rectal area as well as the female parts. Don't ever let a doctor talk to you that way again.

IBS, IBD and Colitis can bring on leakage like this. Maybe you should reach out to a Gastrontologist or Colorectal Doctor. The Gastro doctor can help you with the IBD, IBS or Colitis, but the Colo Dr. can help you with anal and intestinal problems. Maybe something did happen to your rectum. Maybe you need a colonoscopy or endoscopy. Good luck! This stuff happens to men and women, both.

One last thing, if the doctor didn't even look at you, I'd fight to get your money back for yourself and your insurance company. I'm so sick of BAD doctors. I've had a few myself.

I spend most of my time on the anxiety/depression forums but recently have been experiencing a range of symptoms recently which are under investigation by my doctor. I have been having the same issue as you and fins after I have been to the loo I get itching and then have to go and wipe again and get the same problem you described. I put it down to having a hemariodectomy before christmas which I feel has never heeled properly.

Recently I have also been getting a bloated stomach and have a lot of issues with excess wind and having to goto the loo a lot more often. I have had some blood tests which came back ok and this week I am having an ultrasound of my kidneys and urinary tract to see if that comes up with any thing. Could this be IBS?? I have been under a lot of stress at the moment which I know can cause IBS

I agree with the others, I would highly advise seeing a different doctor, you need to see a specialist! I may have a Prolapsed Rectum, I had seen my regular PCP, 2 Walk-In Clinic docs, a Gastroenterologist, a Surgeon and none of them could see this when they examined me, talk about painful exams too! Finally, my surgeon referred me to a Colon/Rectal Specialist in another town, who has seen these kinds of conditions all the time, anyway, my point is, you may need to seek the advice of a specialist, even a Gastroenterologist may not have experience with all problems with the colon or rectum. I wish you good luck and hope you get the answers you need.

I have the same problem and last July I had a hysterectomy, bladder and rectal prolaspe repair and still am the same way. I just had a colonostopy a week ago and nothing was found but as small polyp. I  am doing the kegel to help the bladder stay up but no help with the seepage and itching. I thought the itching ws hemmorroids but I know it is not because  the itching is away from the anus. Better to be checked though just to make sure. I see my gastro on mon. for a follow up and going to ask him about this, I never mentioned it to him before the colon.

I've discovered that that happens to me since I've developed hemorrhoids. I think they sort of catch some of the stool and it doesn't work its way out until we move around a bit.
You could try using a hemorrhoidal suppository and see if that helps.

That is a good point Cathy, I do have hemmorroids and even use the wipes and still have some smearing. Hard on the undies.

Ok. I'm back..... I still have same symptoms but finally decided to do something about it. I went to another walk in clinic couple weeks ago and Dr took a look at anus and said that looks fine but he referred me to gi doctor. No appt set yet, still waiting. I'm also going to my family Dr on Friday to see what he says. As for the first jerk Dr. I'm in Canada so its covered by ohip so no need to pay.

Also have this tightness, bloating on my lower right side.

Read a lot and my best guesses are Candida, ibs, fissure, hemrhoids or maybe just anxiety, stress. I like to stress a lot over everything. When I get a pain I think it's cancer, when I spend some money I think I'm totally broke.

Ok so saw a gi doctor this week. He put me on fodmap diet. I'm doing it strictly this week and today I passed a stool so nice I wanted to frame it. Hope this is it and that my symptoms will totally go away. I will update later on the progress but if anyone has my symptoms or any Ibs symptoms I definitely recommend the fodmap diet

I just found this thread. This same problem has haunted me for years. (I have been diagnosed with IBS-D). I've been to many doctors, all of which start off optimistic "We'll fix this" and they eventually give up.

Would love an update on this fodmap diet. This is the first I've heard of it. How has it worked for you long term?

Hey, it's me again....the FODMAP diet seemed to stop working. I'm back to soft yellow stools and leaky anus. I'm going back to GI on Thursday for 3rd time. First 2 times he didn't do anything except prescribe FODMAP. my family doctor had blood work done and everything was ok. except iron level was slightly high. I had 3 stool samples and nothing and urine test showed nothing. Finger up the butt told nothing either.

Any news? I have identical symptoms. I've had a few tests done that found nothing. All the docs I've seen say IBS. On my last trip to the doc, he prescribed me cortizone suppositories. They help quite a bit, but if I have a morning where I use the bathroom often, the sore, itchy, painful anus flares back up.

Hello,

Me again.... latest trip to GI doctor he is sending me for a splincer test. I don't think that's a problem but at least he's doing something. My movements have been ok. lately. The leakage has on and off improved and i bought some Zinc Oxide for diaper itch. I only used the Zinc Oxide a couple times but I think it helps a lot with the itching. I sometimes take shower after bowel movement and wash the anus and that seems to help too. I once used a hair dryer to dry anus and that was pretty good too.

I had a good small stool today without much wiping so not doing anything about it. (rarely get these but it's nice cause i can walk around normal and shouldn't be much leaking or itching) one day break......

My plan for next bad bowel movement episode is.....

1. Wipe only once
2. Wash anus in shower
3. Dry with hair dryer (cold)
4. Apply Zinc Oxide

I am very hopeful for this technique to at work.

One thing I very strongly recommend is buying ZINC OXIDE. It should relieve a lot of the itching. It's pretty much butt cream to keep the skin moist. I think quite a bit of itching came from my anal skin being dry or tearing and the leakage would get in there and obviously itch. I wish I could get rid of the odour somehow but at least less itching is a big help.

I don't use zinc oxide everyday as I work in close proximity to other and live with my gf so try to keep the smell to a minimum. If you can apply zinc oxide for at least a week and let me know if it's helping you would be great. I'm almost convinced it will help with itching if you have it.

I bought some zinc oxide last week. Helps a ton. I also starting drinking Metamucil. I went a week without leakage after starting it. Today hasn't been great, but I ate a terrible fast food dinner last night and drank a massive diet coke. My doc doesn't think anything is wrong with me. He has done a visual exam an finger exam of my rectum. He found nothing. He keeps suggesting ibs as this started after a few bad rounds of diahrea. He also suggested a possible viral thing.

In the week of feeling great, I had no breads or diaries. Last night, I ate both in large amounts and today hasn't been so good.

I'm new to this. But I have the itchy butt and sometimes alittle more intense, ie some pain.
I have been given Rx for Cholestyramine. Its for Bile Salt Diarrhea. I was getting this small amount of yellowish liquid sitting on my anus and stinging or itching. I could sometimes get rid of it, other times not.
The Cholestyramine binds it up. Seems to have solved it for me, been on it for 20 days. (Powder packet, 3 times a day, mix with water) Side effects, constipation, I do enemas every other day to resolve that. So I may cut back to two packets. Good side effect......lowers Cholesterol.

Rectal Cancer Stage III March 2011 Diagnosis. Radiation Chemo 5 weeks Sept 2011. Rectum removed, Sigmoid removed and alittle large intestine, reconnected colon to anus, given temp iliostomy Nov 2011.
Reversed Iliostomy Feb 2012. Emergency surgery took out section of small intestine where Iliostomy was due to blockage. Problems/side effects: having to self Cath since 2011 surgery, frequent bowel movements, stinging, acid feel in anus.

I have been having these same symptoms now for about a week. I read 1 thing that suggested the possibilities of Pinworms.

I am 81 years old and have had itching anus for several years.  It gets far worse at night.  I went to a Dermatologist and he prescribed a lotion that did nothing at all.

In 2008 I had colon cancer which I survived.  At that time my doctor gave me samples of various things,

one sample was CALMOSEPTINE it comes in a tube and you cant find it locally in Jax Fl.  I found it at Amazon thru a market seller.

It is the only thing in this side world that relieves the itch.  I can't live without it.  It takes just a little dab.

I just underwent a TURP which went terribly bad I was in such misery I actually wanted to die.  I sent my wife home for my tube of Calmoseptine as my anus along with my pain from he surgery was about to drive me insane.

After reading the post, i thought i was the only person who had an itchy anus.  To me, it is embarrassing.  Spoke to one Dr. and she told me to stop drinking caffiene.  I notice i don't have this problem as much, when i leave the soda alone.

I sometimes have the same problem after eating certain foods. I think it may be a food allergy because as food is eliminated so are food allergens.

Agree, go at the source - diet, consider everything you are ingesting and putting into your mouth. Artificial sweeteners are the worst and in so many products now - light yogurt, gum, not just diet drinks.

If anyone is externally very irritated, calmoseptine is an over the counter ointment, kept behind the counter, ask your pharmacist for it, it's amazing stuff and will clear up any skin irritations you may be experiencing, until you get your diet figured out so as to not have this problem in the first place.

I have been having these symptoms and soon I had piles. Lido-Nifedipine gel is the cure I found from alsihech's medical and it has cured my pain in a month

try this simple trick. i've had this same problem all my life and it wasn't until a year or so ago i discovered that this trick works wonders. use wet wipes!!! there is something about it being wet and being much stronger than regular toilet paper that stops the return of fecal matter. i, too, would wipe for 20 minutes, only to start getting that burning sensation 10 minutes later. i would return to the bathroom and it would appear as if i never wiped in the first place. when i started using wet wipes/baby wipes, it has put the problem to a screeching halt.
