mace procedure. Has anyone here had this done?

Hi everyone. This is my first time posting here. I usually hang out on the lyme disease forum. I am currently being treated for that.

Anyway, I have a 9 year old son that has been suffering with constipation all his life. Within the past couple of years it has gotten worse. We have tried everything as far as meds. Most of them hurt his stomach causing bloating and pain. He does see a specialist. A couple of weeks ago he was put in the hospital for a cleanout with go-lightly. He also had a barium enema that showed his colon was very large. He sugested we have him tested for hirshprungs disease. We took him to see a pediatric sergion. He will do the biopsy for the test on apr. 7th. He said if he did not have the disease then we still have the large colon to deal with. He thinks he will need surgery for that (the mace procedure). I hate the thought of that. Has anyone here had a similar experience or the mace procedure? The thought of it makes me so nervous! That's my baby! nono I would appreciate any information. Thanks  :-)

Do he have a mega colon?

Have you tried high fiber diet?That's the first thing specialist recommand.

Hey, im 14 , female.. and ive been sufferering from chronic constipation all my life, i was suppose to have the MACE procedure when i was 7 but i refused it once i got into the operatiing room , but now i am seriously thinking about having the operation , i found this website usefull .. http://www.health.qld.gov.au/cchs/congenital/MACE_procedure.pdf

hi im 17 years old. my fiance is 22 and he has had the mace procedure down. he only just told me about it because it was embarrassing to him. but he is glad he had it because it makes his life easier. it might be easier on him if he had someone to talk to about it

My son just had the MACE procedure done... we are waiting to hear what the specific instructions for using the tube will be for him, however. I would be interested in speaking with others who have had it, or have someone in their care with it...

confused   hi my name is Kristy. my tenyr old son had the mace produce done today and im kinda scared about it. we r at riley childrens hospital and i kw he is in great hands but still scared. he has only been up once since surgery and tht was to go to the restroom. they r keeping his pain under control. so what should i ept when i get home? how long will he be sore and is it really goin to help?

hi everyone, my partner clare had the mase done about 3 yrs ago, she's now 29 yrs old, clare is in hospital (sheffield northern genaral) at the moment admitted 30th jan 2012, still in today 7/2/12, she as lost lot of weight, now she's 6 n half stone, doctors still no idea wats wrong with her, clare seems to think its her mase, as for past 3 yrs she's had nothing but sharp stabbin pains in her appendix area, and also discharge from her belly button hole, all the scans, mri, ct, ultra have shown nothing, her resting heart rate is 90-100 but when she stands up it shoots to around 155, so far they have diagnosed with anorexia, vertigo, pots (Postural orthostatic tachycardia syndrome) now they just keep sayin to clare is, YOUR A PUZZLE, as anyone had any kind of problems with there mase since they had it done? please, doesnt matter how big or small a problem, if anyone can either email me or had me on facebook would be great, thnx paul  my email is [email protected] its same for facebook

I am new and I am interested in MACE procedure for constipation. Does anyone know what kind of doctor who does it and who is the good one for this procedure in Northern Virginia, Maryland and Washington D.C?

Hi everyone, my Son had the mace done two weeks ago and the site has constantly weeped and looks ulcerated, he is on the second lot of antibiotics which hasn't made any difference. Anyone else had this problem?? It is working quite well, very crampy still and stings xx

My son had it done 2 weeks ago, rough recovery but working really good so far, sorry I am in the uk but feel free to ask any questions xx
