I found this forum whilst Googling the above issue. This is the only place that addressed the issue of mucous alone, with no stool at all, be it diarrhea or otherwise.
I started passing ONLY mucous yesterday morning. Not a huge issue, at least until last evening. I am passing copious amounts of mucous that is just flowing out on its own, without warning or any ability on my part to control it as one would if I had the urge to move my bowels, which is how it was before. I was awakened last night in fact after having involuntarily passed so much mucous that I had to get up, clean up and change clothes and go to the drugstore and purchase Poise pads made for bladder leakage and put one on in a position to catch the flow of mucous. It has continued into today, and finally now, at 7:30 in the evening, has slowed down. In the meantime I have had an episode of tremendous pressure that felt like I needed to pass a bowling ball, but no stool came, just mucous. I had awful cramps with the pressure. I took two hyoscamine for the cramps and three lomotil, hoping for a reduction of the severe cramping a mucous flow. Right now I have no cramps and it appears the involuntary mucous flow has slowed down, but I am very alarmed. I have had IBS for many years and never experienced anything this extreme. Any ideas? I see my GI on May 5th for a GERD issue but can't get in before then.
