Hello!
So my story's a bit long--I'm going to try to make it quick. After emergency, life saving, major surgery in March of 2011, I started having diarrhea. This was my second intestinal surgery, and so the doctors dismissed it as "post-surgery." They said it would go away in two weeks. Surprise! It didn't. The two weeks became two months, became four months of having diarrhea constantly, until eventually stopped calling the doctors.
Six months after the surgery, we went to see a GI doctor, who told me it was all in my head, that I was too stressed out and anxious. After him, we (my parents and I) went to see another GI doctor, who, after months of constant testing, diagnosed me with Ulcerative Colitis and started me on Asacol. Before Asacol, I had been taking Immodium near constantly, and it had no effect.
Asacol didn't work, and as soon as my symptoms improved the tiniest bit, he revoked the UC diagnosis and, without diagnosing me, started more tests and me on Cholestyramine. Cholestyramine is not used to treat diarrhea.
We were still seeing blood in my diarrahea, and it was becoming worse. I was in the bathroom more than ever. And, it was happening at night. In my sleep.
So after several more months, we went to see a third GI doctor, who said he thought I had IBD. Six months later, after more health insurance, we did a colonosopy and endescopy which showed that my suture mark was at a 90 degree angle. He thought that was what causing it, and an X-ray was ordered. Surgery was in the air.
The x-ray didn't show anything.
So we did a capsule endoscopy. And that showed nothing.
Several days later, he called back: the nerves in my intestines were so damaged from two major surgeries that they went spastic, causing diarrhea. He gave it a name just so we could have an answer: IBS.
My mom tries hard, but she's been less than supportive. She doesn't understand that even if I remove all stress and anxiety, I'll still have symptoms, that there's physical causes. She's getting better, though.
And so now I have good days and bad days, and am on 6mg of Hysocamine, which gives me headaches and still leaves me with major diarrhea most days.
Does anyone have any ideas?
