Starting about
three days ago I started having a pain around the lower right side of my back and front of my stomach. It slowly moved around to the front which is where the pain has persisted. I went to the ER and the did a urianalysis and a blood test and eveything came back normal. The pain is constant, the level of pain varies. I've also noticed that the area has constant gurgling/rumbling feelings. Nothing seems to alleviate the pain. It's not debilitating though it's not comfortable enough to want to go work out or anything of that nature. There is a small area that is tender to touch. I should also mention that I just started an anti-viral medication(acyclovir) for shingles. Shingles in on my right arm. I don't know if that medication could be causing this. I could say the pain started once I started the medication but I don't want to not rule other things out first.

Acyclovir can cause stomach and abdominal pain/ Are you drinking enough water when you take this. Read this from the Mayo Clinic:

I've been drinking an adequate amount of water. Though I will admit the first day I probably didn't drink as much as I should have but since then I've been constantly drinking water.

Acyclovir gave me terrible upper GI pain which was followed by days of diarrhea.
What did the ER docs think about
your right side tenderness?

Honestly there was no real diagnosis other than common abdominal pain. Blood test were fine as was urine. I was just told to keep an eye oon it and other symptoms. Which nothing has changed. Still pain in my right side. Sharp pain, dull pain, pinching pain, feeling of pressure, and lots of gurgling in that area. No other symptoms I've noted.

Are you also taking ibuprofen for the shingles? If so, stop. How are your BMs?

Hello, I'm a new member:) I will share my near death experience with you! I'm not saying I think you are near death by no means! I do think however you need to have a CT scan ASAP! I started out with pain in the front upper part of my abdomen :( as the day went on the pain got worse & traveled down to my right lower abdomen I was nauseated & pain level was increasing. The next morning I went to my family Doctor & He suggested I go over to the ER for A Ct Scan. I went over & had the CT Scan. The ER Doctor came in Told me I had gastroenteritis Sent me home with a pain med & over the counter med for diarrhea :( Needless to say I had a long sleepless night with the pain :( The next day I had a fever of 104* so nauseated, not eating or drinking! My husband calls back to the Doctor we were told that the gastroenteritis has to run it's course! The next few days I just laid on the couch suffering :( My Husband calls back to the Doctor they want me to come in again. I went in they did a urine analysis thinking UTI Sent me home with CiproI 500 mg. The next morning I still have the high temp & by this time I can hardly walk to the restroom :( I was having like waves of pain through the front of lower abdomen. So, My husband calls the Doctor again! We were told that I needed to take the Cipo for 48 hours! I really don't remember much the next few days I was in so much pain & nauseated & just out of it! So, this is my 12th day of misery My Doctor called said " No UTI " We want to change her meds! I told My Husband to tell them to forget it! I was going back to the Hospital! My husband carried me to the car because I was too weak to walk I was taken back right away & The ER Doctor ordered a Chest X-ray & Another CT scan I had two Radiologists carry me over to X-ray & Ct scan I could not stand on my own! I went back to my hallway:( The ER was so busy My bed was in the hallway:( I remember a man rushing over to me dressed for surgery & He said, " I got here as soon As I could" we're going in for emergency surgery"! Well, my husband said " your not cutting on my wife we have not even been told a diagnosis" That's when The surgeon called my Husband over & asked him to looked at the CT scan He asked my Husband " Do you see this" He replied what am I looking at? Your looking at the first CT scan your wife had 12 days ago that shows a foreign object in your wife's appendix We need o take her in right away She has a bowel obstruction We think! I was in surgery for three hours :( I lost 8 inches of my small intestine due to the abcessed ruptured appendix with sepsis everywhere! I woke up & my surgeon told me Im so glad you came in tonight I don't think you would of been here on earth tomorrow! I was placed in Critical ICU & 10 days :( only ice chips! I lost 32 lbs :( I'm just so happy to be alive I love life! So please, go have a CTscan & if they tell you it negative & you're still having these pains Go Back! Don't call! Don't take anything or granted just because their professionals they make mistakes too:( I wish you a healthy recovery!

I've been having lots of pain in my mid back with movement not which could be a pulled muscle at a wrong time. Though I don't know. I can also say that my bowel movements have been smaller and have a slight orange tint around it in the water. I had a CT scan done with no Iodine. They saud results were normal. I'm still trying to narrow it down. Appendicitis is probably out. Still worried about
Liver or kidneys. Could it be just a pulled muscle and bad gas or something more.

If your bowel movements are regular with formed stool, I would not worry. Acyclovir can be tough on your stomach. My experience was that this side effect lasted about
a week after I was done with the medication. Valacyclovir might not be so harsh.

My bowel movements are less but that's because I'm eating less. The pain is above the hip and to the left. The pain on the back is around the hip but a coulpe inches up and a couple inches away from the spine on the right side. No pain when I take a deep breath but there is pain during certain movement, especially twisting. I'm still trying to figure things out. Nothing has subsided. I don't know if it's the medication that has caused this. I stopped yesterday. Worried it might be kidneys or Liver. I'm 23 by the way
