Fecal calprotectin is an excellent test and it is used to find inflammatory markers in the stool. Sometimes bloodwork will not show an inflammatory process. If your calprotectin test indicates inflammatory markers you most likely have an inflammatory bowel condition and your DR will schedule you for a scope.
Some DRs don't use this test because it is expensive and they will always follow up a positive finding with a scope. So many DRs just go straight to the scope. Consider yourself lucky!
