Beth,
What type of doctor gave you the IBS diagnosis - your pediatrician, primary care doctor? Was one of the tests the doctor did a colonoscopy? Do you have any other symptoms besides pain [like diarrhea, constipation, lots of gas, etc.]
IBS is a diagnosis arrived at through eliminating all other possible causes of your pain. If the doctor did not have a gastroenterologist perform a colonoscopy, then the IBS diagnosis might not be correct.
Also, if you have no symptoms besides abdominal pain, then you might need to be evaluated by a gynecologist. It's possible the pains are something related to your reproductive organs.
My pediatrician diagnosed me with it. He originally thought I was having gallbladder issues. I went through like 4 stool samples, a long list of blood tests, x-ray, ultrasound, and urine test. I get pain, diarrhea, and nausea mostly.
I don't think he wanted to do a colonoscopy because I was younger when I was diagnosed. That whole process would've freaked me out a little.
Hmm. I never thought about
that. But would those problems cause diarrhea and nausea?
Thank you for your input :)
