Traveling with my touchy gut is always a challenge. I've been at this for 14+ years now, in the beginning before a vacation by car I did an enema 2 days prior to leaving home. The day prior to leaving I ate very, very light and the day of traveling, virtually no solids, except for a few saltine but during this phase I kept my fluid intake up. That worked for a long time. Now we don't have time (nor funds for weeklong vacations) for long car trips so that's an added benefit to the recession of 08 and then paying off school loan debt for our daughters (prior to that, college tuition). We've become home bodies and I love it. But again, I just didn't combine regular sized meals with a car trip (and if I had been traveling by plane, same regimen).
I will add that I started a new job in October with some very long work days (8, 9 hour stretches). I cannot eat lunch on these days so I've been taking one Sudafed D 12 hour pill after awakening in the morning (I start work 3 hours after I wake up, to give myself time in the bathroom). I read somewhere on these forums that the ingredients in Sudafed D are what GI docs used to prescribe for Diarrhea years ago. I thought I had nothing to lose so I've been taking these pills each day (even my days off). My gut is no longer swelled up from repeated, messy trips to the bathroom. I don't even want to put up with these symptoms on my days off, so it's become a nice way to manage my IBS like symptoms. I need to add it to my bio.
