Really strange, specific symptom.

Hi Everyone,

I've got a stumper that made even my GI doc (who I love) go "hmmm". So I thought I would submit it to the hive mind to see what everyone thinks. As with most IBS posts, this one is going to be gross!

Occasionally I will wake up feeling fine. I will go to the bathroom, to urinate, and suddenly find a decent amount of diarrhea/mucous coming out of my posterior. No urge to go, no cramps. Its not a lot, maybe a cup - seems like whatever was sitting in the exit chute, so to speak. Immediately after releasing that, I throw up. It takes about 60 seconds for the entire thing to happen, from start to finish.... going to the bathroom, the nausea build up, to vomiting, to being done. Its certainly a shock to the system first thing in the morning, lemme tell ya!

Does anyone have any idea what this is about? The doctor says its slightly confusing. Could be from many things, but he can't put his finger on it. I do not have UC or Crohn's. I occasionally have some colitis and inflammation, but nothing that should cause this. It seems to happen more frequently in the winter, which is when my symptoms get drastically worse. We also have no idea what that's about. Any help would be appreciated, thanks!

It is confusing, yes. I've had 4 colonoscopies. 3 came back negative (including biopsies), and 1 came back with atypical ulcerations. My GI is beginning to believe that the ulcerations were caused by my taking Motrin pretty frequently at the time. Have since stopped and every scope since has been all negative. The last was just a few days ago. I have been on the balsalazide since the scope that showed ulcerations. We have attempted to take me off 3 times, and all have seen noticeable pain increases between the 3rd and 7th day. My doctor is of the belief that I have both IBS and some form of colitis, though we can't seem to get a bead on anything specific so he is unwilling to put his name to it quite yet. Every time I get a blood test, my inflammatory markers are up and I am slightly anemic. However, nothing is ever distinctive enough to diagnose. It has been a very long, very confusing road. Any thoughts?

Hey Ides, I have. All clear, yet again. I've also been tested for the H.Pylori, and as far as they can tell, none of that or any other bacterial imbalance is happening. Neg on ceilacs or any specific food allergy, though intolerant to pretty much everything! My doc is wonderful, and has done a great job helping me treat the symptoms, but I remain generally diagnosed with IBS and atypical colitis. Strange, eh?

Thanks for the reply - I will definitely follow up with my doc about that test - calling him now. Never heard of it before!
