I have severe IBS like symptoms from having my low colon removed due to cancer 15 years ago, I've struggled ever since.
Last October I took a new job and had to do something with the onslaught of repeated bm's and dumping episodes (especially in the morning).
Someone on these forums stated that Sudafed D/Pseudoephedrine used to be prescribed by GI doctors for IBS before Imodium was invented.
On a whim I began taking one 12 hour capsule each work day. My gut was suddenly extremely quiet, no bloating, no gas, no rumbling, the beast was quiet in my gut. It was - wonderful, just absolutely wonderful.
Then my blood pressure shot up alarmingly high and now I can no longer take it.
I am struggling once again (that's a whole other story, not the point of this topic).
I just wanted to mention this particular medication to anyone who is struggling with a very active gut in the mornings, when you want to just get up and get ready for work but find yourself using the bathroom every 10-15 minutes for several hours. I am now back to rising 3 hours before leaving for work. My gut just needs that amount of time to purge itself, happens every stinking day.
So if you don't have ANY issues with elevated blood pressure, ask your doctor if taking Sudafed D, Allegra D, Claritin D would help you. This is the med that is OTC but kept behind the counter, you need a valid drivers license to purchase it. Dirt cheap too, my gut preferred Kroger brand.
Oh how I miss this medication! :(
