Hello, I'm 24 year old woman and last night I got a diagnosis of IBS at a hospital. I guess sort of a diagnosis. The doctor listened to me whine about my cramps then told me it sounded like IBS, and prescribed me Dicyclomine 20mg. He said it should make a difference in a few days and if it does not then I will see a specialist to get an actual, concrete diagnosis.
My problem is I'm reading about IBS and I'm really not sure I agree with his diagnosis.
I really only have two symptoms, which are lower abdominal cramping, and nausea. I was taking a fiber suppliment, mostly because I don't eat a lot and I needed it, and was having normal bowel movements. I've had some minor problems with constipation over the last week, but it's nothing out of the ordinary. No blood, no black stool, no foul odor. Just what feels like a persistent menstrual cramp along the area my uterus is in(sometimes on the left side, sometimes the right, sometimes on both sides). The reason he said IBS is because the pain gradually gets worse, then it subsides back to just a very annoying ache that lingers all day.
Originally I went to the hospital with the concern of an ectopic pregnancy but after a urine test they said I was not pregnant, and that my cramping was IBS. I don't like this medication, dicyclomime, yesterday after taking it I had loose stool and watery diarrhea which is not something I've had since I stopped eating junk food and drinking soda some 2-3 years ago. Also it's making no impact on my cramping, but I'm not sure if it would be helping this early on in treatment.
I haven't been eating any differently than I have been for about a year, and as far as I understand no one in my family has IBS or IBD so I guess I'm just looking for confirmation one way or another, if these persistent, dull cramps, in the reproductive area are normal for IBS or if I should go find another doctor and get a second opinion.
