Just in case anyone else is going through the same fears as I did, it was FINE! Here is a brief overview of my experience:
MoviPrep
I read so many horror stories but, honestly, my experience was not too bad at all. Yes, it tastes disgusting and is difficult to get down but chilling it and chasing it with another drink helps. I found holding my nose and drinking it through a straw made it much easier. I had NO STOMACH PAINS or other issues. I had one normal bowel movement about 15 mins after the first glass and then went straight to liquid stools. I was definitely "cleared out" after the first 1L session but followed-up with the second one just to be sure. Probably wasn't necessary. The worst thing for me was the sheer hunger, a bit of nausea and feeling REALLY COLD. Definitely recommend stocking up on luxury moist toilet wipes and vaseline. My appt was 8am so I started the first session at 1pm the day before (drinking 4 x 250ml glasses over the course of an hour) and the second at 5pm (again drinking 4 x 250ml glasses over an hour). That meant the need for the toilet had subsided by bed time and I was able to get a semi-decent night of sleep. I ate very lightly and followed an ultra low fibre diet 2-days prior and I really think this made the MoviPrep experience so much easier - would definitely recommend it. I found that I was SICK of water and liquid during MoviPrep day but having orange jelly and dissolving a stock cube in hot water were a nice change. It was nice to have the comforting, chicken taste of the warm stock after having the nasty taste of the MoviPrep.
Colonoscopy itself
No problem at all. I had sedation and remember being in the room at the start and then being back in recovery! No other recollection. No pains, no negative after effects so far (it's the next day). The sedation wore off quickly and I ate a normal diet straight away. I felt tired all day but no other issues. I didn't pass gas for the whole day following the procedure, which was very worrying (I'd read that most people were told to pass gas before leaving; they never asked me to do that..). I did pass some this morning, though, which was reassuring. My stomach is making lots of noises but no pain. I was a bit drowsy in recovery so didn't really listen to the doctor but from what I recall he said he didn't find anything worrying but has taken some samples for biopsies.
Overall, I am a natural worrier and read hundreds of experiences and reviews online and I was extremely worried by how many people seemed to have a tough time with the MoviPrep and/or the procedure itself. For me, I am happy to report that it wasn't too bad - please don't worry about the horror stories, chances are you will be fine.
