Hi
I have been getting pain on the left hand side under my ribs for a while and while I thought it was my stomach I am beginning to think it is more an IBS symptom. I have been on acid suppressors for months so don't think there's much possibility of a stomach ulcer.
But the pain is very strange, it gets much worse after I eat certain things, such as fibre or even a small amount of fat. And the pain is immediate, within 10 mins. It originally started when I was taking a fibre supplement and got really bad, i was almost doubled over it hurt so much. It's bad after eating sometimes but other times I get heartburn and the pain under the ribs seems to die away. It can also get bad on an empty stomach and if I drink something like water and then walk around it becomes very severe. Certain foods make it much worse as well, like carrots which also give me diarrhea.
Does this sound like an IBS pain? I have had a colonoscopy which showed mild inflammation in my terminal ileum but they said that shouldnt cause many symptoms. It's getting really bad at the moment if I eat even a small amount of fibre like a few grams I get the immediate pain. My diet is mostly potatoes at the moment because I am also suffering with heartburn and nausea so can't really stomach much else.
The pain is right under the rib and feels really close to the surface, not in the centre but about
halfway across the rib. Sometimes it travels a bit further down but rarely. And when I put pressure on my stomach and get some heartburn it seems to ease the rib pain. I've read about
splenic flexure syndrome, sounds like it might be it. But I don't really have any other problems with my bowels except this.
