HELLO EVERYONE! I AM SO GLAD THAT I FOUND THIS SITE. EVERYONE IS SO NICE WITH SUCH GOOD ADVICE. THE PROBLEM I HAVE IS THAT I CAN HARDLY GAIN WEIGHT. BEFORE I WAS DIAGNOSED WITH IBS, I WAS HAPPY WITH MY WEIGHT BUT NOW I FEEL THAT I AM TOO THIN. I THINK THAT I DON'T EAT AS MUCH BECAUSE I AM AFRAID OF AN EPISODE. I THINK IT'S THE FEAR. I FINALLY LET MY GUARD DOWN AND WENT TO SUBWAY ON A BUSINESS LUNCH AND ATE NORMAL. about
2 HOURS LATER I WAS STUCK IN THE BATHROOM WITH about
6 EPISODES OF DIARRHEA. IS THIS FOR EVERYONE? EVERYONE IS ALWAYS TELING ME HOW I HARDLY EAT BUT I TELL THEM THAT IT'S HARD FOR ME. I'M SCARED THAT I WILL KEEP LOSING AND BE DOWN BAD. I HAVE BEEN FEELING OK OTHERWISE EXCEPT THAT YESTERDAY I HAD AN OVARIAN CYST RUPTURE THAT HAPPENS EVRY 3 MONTHS AMD MY IBS REALLY FLARED UP. I WAS IN THE BATHROOM ALL DAY. I GUESS THE GOOD PART IS THAT I WORK IN A NURSING HOME AND YOU ALWAYS SMELL EVERYTHING BAD. THANKS FOR ANY ADVICE AND SUGGESTIONS. I HAVE THOUGHT about
TRYING CALCIUM. I AM CURRNTLY TAKING ZOLOFT 50 MG, DA, AND ACIPHEX 20MG DAILY. MONDAY I WILL BE GONE FOR 2 WEEKS ON BUSINESS AND I AM SCARED TO DEATH OF HAVING EPISODES. THANKS!

I wish I had some answers for you sports girl. I have the opposite problem. I have about
15 lbs to lose and no matter what I do, I can't shake them off. Your D is definitely having an effect on your weight loss, you are probably not absorbing any type of fat whatsoever which concerns me that you aren't absorbing any nutrients either. I would definitely check with your doctor... maybe you need to adjust your meds.

Hi sports,
I'm in the same boat as you so I really can't say much. But I can suggest....
I think maybe if you start on the Calcium and maybe some probiotics too, you might be able to get your D under control. Hopefully when/if that happens you will feel more comfortable eating. Don't, however, eat a butt-load at once; that is bad for everyone. Try eating small meals more frequently. Have your small sensible lunch and keep some sort of granola bar (power bar, soy bar, etc.) with you to munch on a couple hours later. If you're not already you may also want to take a multi-vitamin (since maybe you don't get enough vitamins and minerals from the little food you eat).

I lost 30 pounds when my diarrhea started a year ago. I was about
40 pounds overweight at the time, so it wasn't an entirely bad thing, but the way it happened wasn't exactly kosher. Now, I think my body's adjusting to the fact that I don't eat as much as I used to, that I have diarrhea constantly, etc. I stabilized for a couple of months and now am starting to lose a bit again. If you need to gain weight, you need a supplement like Ensure or Boost twice a day. Make sure it's lactose-free. Liquid nutrition, basically. It'll be easy on your guts. Or see a nutritionist who can help you develop some ideas for putting the weight on.

Lilamy, sounds like you are on the path to becoming anorexic. Why? Do you think you are fat? Is it IBS that keeps you from eating? You need to resolve this because it is extremely dangerous to deprive your body of nutrients.
