I'm discovering that I get intermittent really bad stabbing or aching pains in the same places in my intestines. Seems most of them occur around bends in the intestines (ileocecal valve area, splenic flexure area, sigmoid area). In the past 2 years, I ignored pain in these areas and it ended being appendicitis and then diverticulitis.
But I don't want to run to the doctor's or E.R. every time I have these pains. It makes it hard to know when and when not to be concerned. Last week I had stabbing pains in my lower right abdomen. No appendix.........and it eventually went away, although yesterday I had one big stabbing pain suddenly in the same place.

Do a lot of you tend to have these "weaker" areas in your intestines that can more easily give you problems, even though it's not life threatening?

Yes...I get pain in the lower left and lower right hand sides. It can also be sore to the touch. The doctor told me it is at the bends in the intestines.
I had even gone to the ER once convinced it was my appendix the pain was so severe.

It is a stabbing pain for me as well but also sore to the touch like it is bruised there when I am having the pain.

Yep, I get the strange pains that you do too. Mine is usually on the left side about and inch or two away from my belly button. You do have intestine in that area, so thinking it is that, and I know it is not a hernia as Dr. has felt me for that and says I have none.

It has never been bad enough to go to the ER, but it can be sore to the touch at times as well as painful.

Our bodies are very strange things that is for sure. You are not alone!!

Where exactly are you describing? Under your ribcage? Above the belly button?

It mainly starts at just right of sternum and goes along the bottom and under rib cage and sometimes get a lot of gurgling with it. Tonight, its just a soreness in there. I also get pains in my right side. Only have had a few pains to the right of my belly button.

Have you been tested for celiac celiac disease? The University of Chicago explains celiac disease and the blood tests for screening.

@cycling lady. Not sure if you were addressing me or CathyA, but in my case I have not been tested for celiac but have wondered if the under right rib pain(close to sternum)was due to celiac or as the practitioner today suggested, an ulcer. Not sure if they gurgle or not. Today they gave me a urinalysis and found out that I had pseudomonis. I had a bad UTI and pseudomonis count was 500,000. They think its causing the pain in back and side (kidneys).

It was directed to anyone who has received an IBS diagnosis. Please do not discount that you can have more than one issue going on. It could be an ulcer, but it could also be celiac disease. Some 80% of celiacs have NOT been diagnosed.

There are over 300 symptoms of CD which is an autoimmune disorder that damages the small intestine leading to systemic problems all over the body! Doctors often do not catch it because they were trained to catch classic celiacs (kids who were malnourished). Guess what? You can be overweight and have CD.
