I have had a colonoscopy and been diagnosed with IBS. My bowels are pretty normal except for having cramps. Since Saturday, I have been all screwed up. I don't know if I have an infection or what! I haven't been able to go normal, it's been both diarrhea/constipation. I understand that's what IBS is, but never had a problem like this. Also, for the past 2 days all I have been passing is globs of mucus. Could it be an infection? I'm really worried and don't know what to do!

Hi knm,
Welcome to the site :)
Your symptoms sound like IBS as its common for people to alternate between diarrhea and constipation. I just wanted to let you know that mucus is VERY common in IBS. This is nothing to be alarmed about
and if everything on your scope just checked out okay, then you should be fine. Our colons normally secrete mucus to help move your bowels however in IBS our colons spasm more irregularly which promotes mucus overproduction. I hope you keep posting and take care. :)

Welcome, knm!
Like dbab said, don't be alarmed.... especially since you have already been scoped.
Take care!

Yes, I just recently found out (by scope) that I have IBS, and the only thing that comforted me before I found out, was the fact that I would pass just mucus, (or have mucusy gas) because I was told that is a signature sign of IBS.
You'll be fine:) I know this hard to get used to, especially when your normal, normal, normal, and then....OMG! what is this coming out of me!?
Hope we have been able to let you put your mind at ease,
Natalie
