Hi everyone! I'm new here but I've been reading lately and it's been really helpful. Anyway, I was wondering if anyone here has tried everything (change in diet, probiotics, exercise, Zelnorm, etc) with not much improvement and has tried antidepressants for IBS-C. Anyone have good results? My last GI doc said that would be the next step after Zelnorm. Thanks!

Hi Sophie,
Welcome to HealingWell!
I have tried almost everything except for antidepressants. For me, and many others, IBS seems to be a real doozey.
I hope someone else will come along shortly who can give you some input.
Take care.

Welcome!
Ive tried only probiotics, because my IBS isnt horrible enough to really need medication (although sometimes I think im gonna die haha) and without probiotics, I would be wayyy worse than I am now. Opt for a good brand, even tho they can be expensive. It'll be well worth your money! I think you want to have like, at least 10 Billion live cultures or something??

Sophie,
I am new here also, and just very recenlty found out (by colonoscopy)I have IBS-C. about
a month before my proceedure, my gp put me on 50mg of Zoloft for anxiety, (I then switched drs because I felt like I was being ignored) I told my new dr about
all my symptoms and that I had been put on 50mg zoloft for anxiety, and he, right off the bat, scheduled a colonoscopy and upped my zoloft to 100mg because he said that anxiety can make IBS worse, and zoloft should help relieve the tiny, narrow stools and it did! after a few days of taking the higher dose, I was having more "normal" sized bms.
I hope what I wrote doesn't sound like I was rambling too much! The long and the short of it is: Yes, I take antidepressants for my IBS and they really do help me :)
Hope this has helped,
Natalie
