any of you get persistent chronic nausea?
have been having the last few months and and they did upper and lower scope and they didnt find any IBD related causes for the nausea

doc is prescribing a low dose of elavil
i understand it has been used in IBS patients
any of you use if for management of long-term nausea?

whats your thoughts?

Nausea is not a common complaint of IBS unless someone is suffering from not being able to go days at a time.

I do not have IBS/IBD, I have other neurological issues w/ bowel.

ANYWAY, I also have chronic nausea. Mine started 2 months post surgery for a colostomy. It happens on and off, several times a day usually. I take 8mg sublingual Zofran, 3 times a day. I also use a scopolamine patch. I try to eat a balanced diet and eat slow. I have no answers for why this happened to me, but I'm doing the best i can to manage it.

I realize that this is an old thread so maybe you won't see it or the symptoms have resolved themselves. If they haven't, you could consider having a gastric emptying test to look for gastroparesis or a hydrogen breath test to look for SIBO. I have both of these problems and neither can be seen on an endoscopy or colonoscopy. Ten years ago I had a whole host of tests done when I was having incapacitating nausea and everything looked perfect. I thought I was going nuts until my doctor ordered a gastric emptying test that showed I have significant gastric emptying. The main symptoms are nausea, early satiety, and sometimes weight loss (because you don't feel like eating or eating much since you are nauseated and get full quickly). about 2 or 3 years ago I started getting more IBS/IBD type of symptoms, and I had a hydrogen breath test in January that showed I have SIBO. I'm still battling that (and trying to figure out if I have something more than that going on) but SIBO is apparently very common among those with gastroparesis.

Nausea isn't a typical IBS symptom. I think you have something else. You should check with your doctor
