So I haven't posted on here in a while. Last time was before I got to see a GS about
my problem. For most of the year, I've had symptoms driving me insane on a near daily basis. Namely, the feeling of something being stuck in my rear, or to be more technical - the feeling of excess tissue in my anus, making it uncomfortable for me to sit down. I've also had on and off rectal itching, which I suspect is being caused by small amount of a leakage onto the skin.
On the first visit, I had an exam and was told that I have grade 2 internal hemorrhoids, but external was fine. Was advised to use daily fiber supplement, and go on a strict vegetable, fruit and protein oriented diet and avoid grain products. I've tried, with varying success to stick with it (as much as taking food that you like away really drains a lot of joy from your life) I could do better. I was told that increased fiber would result in better bowel movements and less pressure which would relieve the hemorrhoids.
I just returned for a follow up. My symptoms aren't gone, although I can say they might be a little less severe, I can still feel it. So had another examination, this time by a different physician. He told me that there were "no obvious hemorrhoids" that he could detect. That's the story with doctors - the first one tells you one thing, then the next one tells you something different. So if they're not obvious why do I still feel them? Of course I know that they're considered dynamic, in that they aren't the same from day-to-day. But this is the question I've never been able to get out of any doctor. Do internals ever subside and return to normal state of not feeling them? Or is it a condition that I'll constantly need to manage for the rest of my life? Because at this point, it seems chronic for me.
So this time I was advised to increase fiber dosage and bowel movement frequency to more than once a day. I find that very difficult to do. The only other option from there, is a colonoscopy to check for other issues and to have the hemorrhoids burnt or pinched off. A pretty drastic measure especially for the uninsured, and no guarantee that I'll be relieved of my symptoms.
Has anyone here dealt with hemorrhoids (in particular internal ones) for nearly a year or longer without relief? What are my chances, if this is infact hemorrhoids, that it will ever actually resolve on it's own? Also, does anyone notice trace amounts of leakage while having hemorrhoids? That is not a symptom I hear mentioning of very often. I often suspect it, as it usually feels like tiny pocket of gas throughout the day.
