I have read many times that people have found relief for IBS symptoms with anti-anxiety medications. My Dr. Talked about prescribing me Xanax and I think that this a long with lifestyle changes can really help my symptoms. I was wondering if anyone else here has had any success with this. Let me know what medication you used and how exactly it had helped you

This is just 'my opinion' and definitely not 'advice' ... Unless you have anxiety or panic attacks, etc... I am surprised that any dr would prescribe Xanax for ibs alone...
It would interest me to read if Xanax has actually helped anyone's ibs. (I'm not saying it hasn't...just saying I haven't heard of this before.) I know that my own anxiety affects my ibs...which can vary between D and C ...
Have you tried any other medications, Rx or natural, or diet change, or anything else specifically for ibs?

I have IBS-D and panic disorder. I am on xanax daily and I can tell you it does not help IBS. I believe the anxiety meds that are supposed to help IBS are in the family of SSRI's, not benzodiazepines. I plan to discuss this with my doctor when I next see him. Xanax manages my panic attacks but NOT my IBS.

I have IBS-D as a symptom of my anxiety. My panic attacks used to be 'respiratory' but now they are all stomach related. My biggest issue is being gassy and fear of being gassy in public. I always feel like I need to go when I'm stressed/anxious. The Xanax calms my nerves which reduces my stomach from overproducing acid/gas and relaxes my stomach so I don't feel the need to use the bathroom.

Xanax (long term) to manage what you are speaking of would be irresponsible IMO.

Xanax is ok, to be calm, but meantime you will need a psycho to help you with cognitive.
Also medication about the spam on the bowels and also a medication before eat everytime, and slowly you wil be confident and stop the xanax.
I suppose your doctor is specialis on IBS.
