My daughter in law was diagnosed with IBS several years ago. She suffered a great deal. Her main symptoms varied between constipation, diarrhea, bloating, gas & at times severe stomach pain. Her pcp really did her no favors by attempting to treat an unknown, simply because she had not been diagnosed. Finally, she insisted on a referral to a gi dr. The gi dr did scopes to rule out other conditions. It is a process of ruling out other conditions. She also started a food diary, sounds boring, however, by keeping a diary of her intake she was able to pinpoint her triggers. Dairy was high on her list of triggering an episode. She went on an IBS friendly diet & has managed her symptoms quite well. I suggest that you go to the Mayo Clinic's website & read about IBS. They have some great info there.
Take care.
