Jumping in here with my 2¢, psyllium fiber found in fiber supplements has also been proven to improve the health of diabetics by leveling out the postprandial blood glucose highs experienced after meals. It works in a purely mechanical way without medicinal side effects.
And as far as the "hardening and clogging of the colon wall"... that's a sales pitch for selling "special health enemas" that may or may not be beneficial. If you do a search on WebMD for 'colon plaque' the phrase doesn't exist. Somebody out there decided to start marketing high colonics as alternative health treatments but the claims about
hardening of the walls of the colon are questionable. If you want some true information about
the makeup of the intestinal walls go to
Mucous Colon Epithelial Tissue or for some in depth discussion of the mucosa of the epithelial layers of the colon go to
Microbial modulation of innate defense: goblet cells and the intestinal mucus layer. If you can read 'medical' these articles explain that the mucous that is found in the intestines is produced constantly and is very helpful in disease prevention and nutrient absorption.
Before anyone gets their bloomers in a bunch please show me a website that is connected to a university where medical research is being done that includes studies on 'colon wall hardening'. Until that happens I will not think of it as a true medical issue. Like I said... just my 2¢.
