This thread is pretty old, but I encourage ANYONE with chronic GI issues to make sure your doc runs a blood test for possible Celiac Disease which can cause these symptoms. CD is rare (1-3%) but many people go for years and years without realizing these indigestion symptoms are caused by CD or gluten sensitivity/intolerance. The only treatment is a strict GF diet. Other common possibilities are intense anxiety/stress, food allergies, IBS and/or SIBO (gut bacteria imbalance). It is also really important to get a colonoscopy and endoscopy, esp. if you have never had that done before and are age 40+. They are very easy, quick tests and give docs a direct look at your entire gut/digestive system so you don't lose sleep worrying and wondering about
the cause and best treatment.
My experience:
My digestion went suddenly haywire last fall (bad D no matter what I ate--for 2 weeks). At first, I chalked it up to a bad meal or gastroenteritis (stomach flu), started a bland diet for a week. No improvement. Then I thought perhaps extreme work stress/burnout in long-standing toxic job (years of constant out-of-town trips, mean clients/bosses), insomnia, and/or bad diet (high carbs, sugar, junk food). So I quit toxic job, changed diet, and tried probiotics, etc.--all to relax my body/mind/gut for a month or so before starting a new job search. Still bad indigestion. Then my doc ran a stool test to rule out any weird gut/parasite infection or food poisoning. Tests were normal. Finally, she did a TTG blood test (for gluten antibodies/celiac) which came back positive. Now I am on a strict GF diet and trying to avoid any gluten exposure as my body heals and rids itself of lingering G antibodies left in my system.
Good luck to you Taylor and Simpletricks. Being unable to "poop" normally and spending so much time thinking, worrying about
....ahem..."bathroom issues"--esp. during a pandemic with toilet paper shortages--REALLY STINKS....
