Bunnybaby,Hi my name is Jay4,I was dx with IBS in 91,and in Jan of 05 I was told i had crohns,a full yr of meds and test and wanting to take my colon out I went to another GI and a colorectual surgeon,and both told me I didnt have crohns but IBS and Fibro,I was tested for the breath test and also shower positive and I am just starting the treatmean of Xifaxax for 10 days then Zinc for a month,Zelmorm 6mg Flora-Q capsules ,so we will see how this works,just wanted to let you know your not alone.Jay4

While you are Xifaxan does it cause D? I usually post on the Ulcerative colitis forum, but I just got a new GI and he thinks that I might not have UC but might have Microscopic colitis, IBS or an infection. I highly doubt it is an infection because I have had these symptoms for about a year now. D, stomach pain, nausea, loss of weight, but never any blood (blood is a sign of IBD/Ulcerative colitis). I think my symptoms are highly related to stress as all these symptoms started last semester in college, my girlfriend now wife moved from MD to AZ, stressed about starting a career, stressed about planning a wedding, etc etc).

Anyways that was a bit longer than expected but you know how it goes.

Antibiotics can cause diarrhea. Different kinds affect different people in different ways. But it is a known side affect. Progressive G.I.s will tell you to take lots and los of probioitics (I read one doctor's website and he said he recommended 3 times the normal amount or more of probioitics while someone is on antibiotics) to keep from killing off all of yoru good bacteria and giving the bad bacteria room to flourish.
