GoLYTELY

I personally haven't used GoLytely, but it is a commonly used bowel prep for colonoscopies.  It's supposed to really clean you out, usually in a relatively short time.  Hope this helps.

well, after drinking GoLYTLEY, I am not sure if it cleaned me out the way it was supose to...sorry if this is gross.....it was all liquid like i had d. is it supose to do that

i don't have anymore pain and don't feel pregnant and well its been so long since i have felt the cleaned out part LOL. anyways i think i am....not use to this feeling...just feeling really weak dizzy and terrible headache is this normal

If you are dizzy and have a headache, I would really suspect that you are dehydrated which any colon cleanser can and will do... are you drinking tons of water and/or gatorade. IMO, gatorade is better because its supposed to replenish your electrolytes.

I had to use it before a test a few years ago. Believe me it works, it's a little hard to get down because you have to drink so much, but it'll clean you out like never before.

It will certainly clean you out. God only knows why anyone would want to willingly take it, though. It is NASTY!!! We're talking makes-you-sick-to-your-stomach nasty. Imagine the worst-tasting cough syrup you've ever had to take and imagine drinking a gallon of it and you'll have some idea of what it's like. Most people dread drinking it worse than they dread having diarrhea all day, much less the actual colonoscopy procedure. And more than one person has vomited it back up it's made them so nauseated.

A number of people on here have said that the Fleet's phospho soda doesn't taste quite so bad and there's a whole lot less of it to drink. Also, there are pills that you can get that work as a laxative. And in Canada there's a product called Pico Salax that has gotten rave reviews--it's supposed to taste like Tang.

But I think you'll find most everyone on here pooh-poohs colon cleansing anyways. The people who have tried it have only gotten relief for a few days before going right back to their old IBS symptoms. Of course, for people with chronic constipation, a few days relief can be a lifesaver, especially if they have a special event coming up or trip they want to take. But unless you are constipated, I really wouldn't recommend you do a colon cleansing; there's really no point. Contrary to some of the claims of the websites selling stuff, poop doesn't get caked on and built-up in your colon. The only time you have poop lodged in there is when you are constipated. Other than that, it's flowing through there naturally at its normal rate of speed. The smooth muscles of the intestines undulate like a snake--and how often do you see a dirty snake? It is wiggling around too much for something to stay stuck.

Those of us who are chronically cleaned out by bouts of diarrhea will certainly tell you that having a clean, empty colon sure hasn't done us any good; we'd happily spend a little time backed up.

Your best bet would be to stay away from the GoLytely and try Fleets Phosphosoda. Much better.

There are two different all natural laxatives that I can think of: aloe vera capsules and prune juice. Take enough of either of those and you'll get cleaned way out. For that matter, I ate like 1/2 a pound of grapes once and they gave me the runs. But I also had a lot of cramping too. But then, any laxative can cause cramping. Epsom salts are also a natural laxative, but they are on par with GoLyghtly in terms of taste.

What kind of IBS problems do you have? If you are frequently constipated, you can try a daily dose of the prune juice or aloe vera capsules or a soluable fiber supplement to try and get a little more regular. If you can't get relief from regular laxatives, then it may be time to ask your doctor for Zelnorm, which is a prescription for hard-to-treat constipation.

I don't buy it either. I think it's a bunch of bull to try and sell their product. How can poop be that stringy and clingy - it would break. Anyway, that's gross.
Before you do any colon cleanse please do the research. Talk to docs. You will find that most, if not ALL, are ANTI-colon cleanse. It's not healthy, it's dangerous.
Please, please, please talk to a doc first.

I have a question and in desperate need of help. i went to the er yesterday after 4 days of severe pain like i have never had before. the doc sent me home with golytely. i started drinking around 2.00pm it is now 7:30pm and NOTHING... not even a drop... I am in worse pain then yesterday which brought me to the er, what do I do and how long should I wait? I admit that I lagged for about an hour i drinking this garbage yech! but ... within the last 2 hours have drank just about all of it except for maybe 4 or 5 cups that may be left, but I dont want to keep drkinging is nothing is going to happen. anyone experience thisbefre?
